1 - I've said it before and I'll keep saying it as long I live, I do not accept tanking in any way, shape or form no matter what.

2 - I find it almost unbelievable that we have a poll on this forum about tanking with some supporters wanting to tank in order to get draft picks, at the same having another thread condemning Carlton for doing the same thing. You can't have it both ways.

Exactly mate...agree 100% :clap

Its a disgrace that here people are wanting their own team to lose, and a hated enemy win....all for a priority pick.
Shame, shame, shame! >:(

What has two number 1 picks done for Carlton?
Short term nothing special, long term they have put themselves into a position where they will have to pay through the nose to keep 2 great players who wont want to stick around on a sinking ship when success beckons elsewhere.
At Richmond our problem is that we have recently had a losing culture settle in at punt road. I honestlythink blazing away to 100 point wins (logically this wont occur) in our remaining games and finishing 9th would be better for the club going forward, so long as we have the plans and ability to carry this confidence over the break (most likely wouldn't be able to). I think this would be much better than bottoming out and ending up with Kreuzer (this will most likely occur).

carlton are not losing because of murphy and gibbs, they are losing because of a wanker of a president cost them priority selections for a couple years and they also picked up duds from the only half decent selections they did have

it seems some of you will never understand tanking, thats fine because we all want to go to the footy and come out singing the song but in life nothing is as simple as that

wins this year mean nothing next year, the players you pick up however will hopefully serve you 10+ years on from now

you either get it or you dont, simple!

I agree with you about Carlton's ex president, but tanking implies deliberately losing games. This in turn implies that person(s) have ordered this action. This has implications in regards to the reputation of the game itself as well as possible accusations against those who ordered or knew about the 'tanking' in for instance, the gambling industry amongst other things. (I'm deliberately leaving this open as I'm not fully aware of all the side affects)
Do I need to mention the losing culture that results from constant losses? What do you think will happen to the players we pick up next year? Do you want the Richmond Football Club to be the guardians of a generation of 'career losers'? I want decent players as much as the next person, but those players must come into a culture where losing is unacceptable.

but.....if u think.....

if we start winning games now, it could jeopordise us in the future?

Would we rather a few wins at the end on a season that means jack s**t or no wins that implies a better chance of success in the future

I would rather the players end the season on a high and full of confidence.
A winning attitude IMO means more than draft picks.
Future Success is undermined by the losing culture that currently exists.

winning will take care of itself after you get your team developed and structured properly, confidence will come with time but talent wont because you either have it or you dont

tanking is not rigging games, its about playing the 2008 side NOW and if you win great but if you lose its not the end of the world

thats how i look at it but i know some around here see it differently so thats fine

its a waste of time discussing tanking anyway because we arent good enough to do it properly, same as carlton

if anything melbourne are getting off lightly because they should be winning games with the team they still have out on the park atm

While I think a lot of people here would get off on us picking up the first pick every single year, most people outside of here would probably take more heart from wins.

'Tanking' is all about the context in which it's used. 'Rigging" isn't the term I would use, but it's very close.
And if we are 'tanking', I believe we're very good at it. It only takes a 10min 'lapse',a couple of inappropriate match-ups or lack of game plan to 'tank' a game. And if half the population refuses to believe it, then the 'tanking' has been performed according to plan. It's very subtle and very clever, if that's the case.

rigging a game is about having no interest in winning the match and putting money on against your own side - disgraceful

tanking is about testing a few younger players and trying different things - no problems

somehow most people just seem to link the two and dont understand the difference

Thats what TW has been doing, I think we looked good for a few weeks then from the Kangaroos game, shocking match-ups and game plan for mine

Thought we were ordinary last week and even worse the week before but for some reason I am quite excited about this weeks match. Seeing, Riewoldt, Connors, Edwards, Hughes and a few others in and even Tambling back is what I like. Lids in this week would have really topped off things. Another debut of a player who looks the goods. Strange thing being a Tiger supporter. Eternal optomism!

I'm disappointed that Terry didn't let the boys win for Richo's 250th. If only we'd tried that game instead of tanking we'd have won for sure.

And I think it's good for the development of the players that Terry has trained them so well in concealing that their bungling is deliberate- part of a brilliant master plan for world domination. You can hardly tell.

And I heard this one too- that mobile phone towers emit coded messages that only our players can hear telling them to lose games.

And another one- a cow spontaneously combusted in a paddock near Tambarkathing last week. There was a circle mown into the field of corn it was grazing in. It was wearing Nikes. They were all that remained. But they were not burned.
