Interesting viewing. I supsect the data from pre 1990 should be omitted because most of the picks in those drafts were debacles. If that were the case I think the average games played by early picks would be a bit higher.

The numbers support my gut instinct that it is not the average quality of our drafting but the quality of our trades that has killed us. Richmond is the only club to get above average game returns in 5 out of th 7 sections.

Another point to note is that once you get over pick 50 it is all a pit of raffle so it doesn't matter whether you are picking 51 or 91 the average return looks about the same.

It also raised the question that if the average return for a top 10 pick is less than 50 games, trades for players like B2, who is probably good for 50 games, are probably the percentage option rather than take a plus 50 pick. Not as much fun, but bit like kicking to the top of the square instead of trying the banana from the boundary.
