I was a fan of Aaron Fiora and Dave Rodan but I'm still surprised how well they've done at other clubs compared to how they were going at Richmond. I thought Fiora was really good last night driving the ball forward.

Aaron has matured but he wasn't looking like being a real influence in a game on a regular basis at Tigerland. With Dave the change was instant, he didn't look like getting around 20 possessions each week with us but he's right at home at Port. A very consistent player.

Just makes me wonder why the change of scenery can result in more valuable players who contribute each week. Aren't they happy at Richmond, do other coaches see things ours don't, do they realise they've been given a lifeline and decide to pull their finger out, do we not have the patience and faith to give them extra time?

I haven't seen much of the Saints this year. How is Rix going? Would he have been of value to us this year with our depleted ruck stocks?

We have a few players now who aren't getting much of a go, Danny and Brent come to mind, but I wonder if they're picked up by another club if they'll develop and show the reason we selected them in the first place but preferably I hope we can do that ourselves.

In a way it makes me wish trade week was utilised more so fringe players had the chance of a change of circumstances and possible improvement.

Ask Polak Rosy!

Re. Rix rubbish ruckman would have been a was of a pick.

Re. Brent he is not getting a game because of injuries and now lack of match fitness

Jason Torney has had a good career with Adelaide since we got rid of him. Good on him he was a good honest player for us and im glad hes still around.

fiora got some stats, ran some lines, kicked long. Linked well but not damaging.

he's OK but we can't trade rubbish to get quality (simmo). Gone are the days when a club would give up their frst two draft picks for Hiltons and Biddiscombes.

We have to build a quality CLUB so all recruits have the best chance of realising their potentials. Certainly players like Torney and absolutely Fiona were not privilege to one.

Polak was traded in slightly different circumstances to Dave and Aaron though Western.  I'm sure Freo realised what a good player he is but personal circumstances made it a beneficial situation for both clubs.  Can't remember if Aaron was traded or delisted but we certainly put Dave on the scrap heap cos we didn't think he had what it takes.

Not 100% sure about Brent, he hasn't been given a go for yonks.  Thanks for reminding me I'd completely forgotten to pass on our questions for him to answer.  Maybe he can enlighten us himself.

And what about Brad Ottens? Played a blinder yesterday for Geelong. Really put in tackling hard etc according to the guys on 774. Nothing like the player he was at Richmond.

Reading between the lines, the culture at Richmond isn't very good for player development. Btw I thought Rodan was treated in a very shabby manner at Punt Rd. Good luck to him at his new club.

Fiora didn't have an opponent last night... or any contested possession.
Saints fans noticably unmoved by him.

Be one of the few times Ottens has done anything - though he can turn it on against us!

that`s nothing new from ottens, the once in a blue moon game where he actually puts in hard.
our player development must have been ok for him,we turned him into an all australian CHF.
we gave rodan every chance in the world to prove himself and cement a position in the team. no one else wanted him because he was to small,if it wasn`t for the richmond football club he wouldn`t have ever played AFL football.he owes us if anything.

He'll always look a million dollars in that type of game when his side is winning. Where has he been the past 6 weeks when the Saints have struggled? But they're probably rapt with him in comparison to Plapp, Ryan and Powell.

Good luck to Rodan, playing to the utmost of his abilities. Trained like a demon when he was trying out at Port; their senior players were most impressed and urged the club to draft him. Why wasn't he working that hard at Richmond?

Ottens has always had the tools but I doubt that he's playing better at Geelong than he did for us.

Torney's a ho-hum player in a good side.

Ben Holland's done OK at Melbourne without returning over the odds for a #20 pick.

Our other recent cast-offs who've been thrown a lifeline by AFL clubs in Zantuck, Ben Haynes, Aaron James, Daffy and Bourke should be mentioned to put things in perspective.

Seen many a player turn their Career's around with a change of scenery over the years.
Definetly could be a number of reason's for it though ..............Lack of opportunity , Personality , Club Culture , Playing with a Different class of Player's than at the previous Club , Style of play , Position played at , the list could go on forever.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least to see one of our current player's get a new lease of life at another Club and transform into a better player.
This I would contribute to the "Playing in a Better Class of Team" catogory if indeed it was to happen.

I agree, knowing a few saints fans, they don't rate him highly at all. Having seen a few saints games this year, he is lucky if he gets a cheer when touching the ball. It is usually "oh no not fiona" and I usually comment with "way to go princess"

I think Danny Meyer will come back to SA and contribute, which will be annoying......

Rodan is playing well, but he is more of a support player at Port, when he was a Tiger he was probbaly expected to do too much.

Fiora is an ordinary AFL footballer.

Ottens could be a champion, I just don't think he tries that hard. No change from when he was a Tiger, he CAN play a blinder, and will have many great games for the Cats. He will also play some sh*tters.

Polak is the man.

Maybe it comes down to the guys getting a change of scenery realising that if they don't give it their all, they aren't going to get a third chance?

I think Polak is a good comparison. He couldn't fit into the Freo team. He didn't "fit" in their plans. He knew his time was up 12 months before he left there.

Rodan was given a season to improve himself after coming back from his knee. He'd been average for a while before Wallace arrived, and quite frankly, he didn't look like he could find the football last year. It was chalk and cheese in comparison to the preseason where he did his knee.

Fiora did absolutely jack and nothing the week before in WA. I don't think he had a touch until the third quarter. He does OK for the saints because there are so many players we don't want getting the ball (eg when they are all fit - Ball, Del Santo, Hayes, Harvey just to name a few). Fiora does well there because he's largely left to his own. He wouldn't have had that luxury at Richmond. I expect this is what Deledio is finding now. With so few quality midfielders, he's getting tags earlier in his career than a player at West Coast or the crows would.
