Well it's that time of year again when the start of the season is fast approaching and we all have our predictions and wishes for our great club Richmond.

Unlike last year when i gave a full detailed report on where i thought we would finish this year i will give a short few lines.
Just having a look at the whole list and who've picked up and who's left the club over the last few years, i just personally think the list and depth is noticeably improving.
Also the players who were injured for the majority of the year (Brown, Simmo, Cogs and Polo) will return they will definitely add an enormous amount of talent and experience to the over all structure.

Furthermore "im not going to run through all the names" as we all know who our young guns are but with another year under their belts some of these talented youngsters will excel.

Younger Players who have been under a little pressure or who have had on going injuries will hopefully take that next step and start putting pressure on the selectors, Moore, schulz, Hughes, Casserley, White and Meyer just to name a few

Im quietly confident of a climb up the ladder, i have us in the 8 to 11 bracket.

Of coarse i hope we make the 8 but i see us being around that mark.

oh i see. virtually no injuries (that's right - no more than Geelong, Swans, Bulldogs etc). what has turned out to be the kindest draw of all time (it's about time), and the fact we have managed just one win against a top 8 team (and beaten every team in the bottom eight). who had nothing to play for doesnt suggest perhaps we have overachieved just a tad (or underachieved - depending on your perspective)

i will say it again. in looking at the list as a whole we lack depth structure size skill and height (agreed - but so do some other teams - we are just more intimate with RFC and therefore more critical). this has not changed in 4 yrs of wallace and 6 yrs of miller. (again perspective - rather the football we play and the list we have with potential than the one in five years before Wallace). yet you suggest reality says we are top 8. when it does change i might start predicting a higher ladder finish (offered only in contrast to your claim that we are bottom 4 - fighting stupidity with stupidity ;D).

My comments were not a statement of fact but simply a counter to your flippant put down of RFC in 2008.

Basically - the position we finish on the ladder is function of two things -

* the 22 games played by RFC - which it has some control over
* the other 154 games which RFC has no control over whatsoever.

So RFC has some control over just 12.5% of what determines its position. Competetive with 3 Top 8 teams (beating one, drew with another, lost by a lousy kick to another) and beat every bottom eight side - frankly - that's all i'm saying - as you have your skew or spin on where RFC are at, so it is that other skew or spin can counter that...............

the real proof in the pudding will be next yr. do we do a 2007 or do we actually continue to climb. for me the factors that determine my convictions are the structure of the list and player type.

You have got to be kidding Claw.

Kindest draw of all time? Over exaggerated much?

We finished bottom on the ladder last year, and we were one of the few sides this year to get the premiers twice this year and adelaide and the hawks who most expected to be up and about this year, not to mention still get our typical average of 5 interstate games.

I never get too excited about the draw, I never think it is as bad as people make out and come from a viewpoint of if you are good enough you will win, if you *smile* about the draw for anything other than having games at weird neutral grounds or consecutive short breaks, then your making excuses for a weak side.

Yet to go to the other extreme and say this year's draw was the kindest draw of all time...

Get serious man.

I though this year's draw was not bad, but it was far from pretty good, let alone kindest of all time :P

hmm not bad well i reckon it was fantastic apart from having to play pa again at aami.ess 2, carlt 2, melb 2, freo2, sheesh theres 8 wins just there if your a decent team. adelaide 2 middle of the table like us a decent team would win one. haw 2 geel 2. yet we wont make the 8 with this draw and few injuries. it doesnt get much better. yep travel 5 times all melb clubs travel at least 4 times even collingwood.
in fact apart from this week the draw reflects our season beat the bottom sides lose to the top sides.

We may have had a good run home with our draw, but the start of the year was brutal
Even in the run home getting Geelong, Adelaide (Away) & Hawthorn is pretty tough
Certainly no walk in the park

Considering we won 3 and 1/2 games last year, and should win 11 and 1/2 this year, I would say on pure numbers that we are the most improved side in the competition. A finish of 9th on the ladder would be appropriate....beaten those below and struggled against most of those above us. Hopefully next year will see us more competitive againts the better sides.

However, next year will be a test for us.....we did the same thing in 2006 and fell back afterwards....so the "graph" needs to keep heading in the right direction. However, I think we have a better, younger list than we had in 2006.

Hopefully this year is the start of something, however I won;t hold my breath as there have been many false dawns before.

As we should be I reckon. Last year we were crippled by injury to key players and this year we've had a good run. Also last year's draw from hell, with consecutive interstate trips, was arguably worse than this years.

hmm could end up 8th 9th or 10h 11th in reality still a bottom 4 side though.

Doherz, Claw did have a bit of an each-way go here so be fair.

btw, there will be a market for Will Richmond finish ninth in 09. I will post it in the new year. Expect Yes 3.20 No 1.25

Mmm i did have us in the 8 to 11 mark, ahh the dreaded 9th place but it feels a better 9th than years gone by, based on youth..

Well come mid Jan 09', after we've had time to absorb all the Trades, ND and PSD/Rookie draft...Ill once again start up a new thread to guage the thoughts of all on PRE for the tigers ladder placing in 09'...
