Isn't this a headline we would love to read in the Sunday paper!
The best teams traditionally have about 8-10 guys averaging 3 tackles or more per game. In the side playing the Bumbers we only have 2 hitting this mark, Kane Johnson and Tambling. Interesting to see we dropped McGuane, the only other guy averaging 3 tackles per game. Essendon's midfield is not skilled or experienced enough to beat pressure (as shown by the blowouts against good tackling teams) but if we don't tackle them then there skills are pretty good (as shown by their ability to kick high scores). So it's quite simple, if the Tiges lay at least 50 tackles against the Bummers (8 above average) we win comfortably because of our ability to win the hard ball.
FYI: For those who think only guys 2nd to the ball have high tackle rates I've listed the Top 25 tacklers in the league below this season (minimum 3 games) and each players average disposals in brackets next to their tackle average. There are number of guys I call "twenty four hour" players on the list. These are "two-way players" who average at least 20 possies and 4 tackles per game. I call them "twenty four hour" players cos' to get these stats you gotta be able to run all day long in both directions. I consider them equivalent to basketballers who get double-doubles. You gotta have them in your lineup or you lose more often than not. We have 1...... Captain Kane.

Best Placed Tigers:
35 Kane Johnson Richmond 4.3 ( 27.7 )
78 Richard Tambling Richmond 3.4 ( 17.0 )
No one else in Top 100 and only 4 in Top 200.
Being a 20-4 player (Average 20 possies / 4 tackles per game) is one of the key areas that Foley, Deliedio, Tambling, Tuck and any new guys that want to play midfield had better address or it will continue to be difficult to beat the teams in the 8.
