i gotto say the standard of footy commentary on tv has been nothing short of ordinary since ch 7 lost the footy in 2001 and ch 9 and 10 hired radio commentators who state the bleeding obvious and are just as boring as f****.
they need to take a leaf out of the soccer commentators. martin tyler is brilliant and simon hill is the best sports commentator in australia by the length of springvale rd.

Lane wont be happy until it's a non contact sport, his soft *smile* views are a danger to this great game, I just hope no-ones listening to him.

Agree I for one am glad he is not commentating. Too biase. Used the coverage of games to have a crack at other teams & over exagerate interpretations of free kicks that were not there or disagree on ones given against the scumwood.Ghost Who Walks said:

I don't think it is that bad, Haven't heard Tim Lane so cannot comment. But on Eddie, he has passion for his club (who here doesn't) he gets excited when they are up and dirty when they aren't (who here doesn't). The fact that it spills over to his commentating makes him more genuine and IMO interesting to listen to (especially when the mudpies are down) as he calls with the passion you and I have for our own club.
The fact that he used to sink the boot every now and then annoyed me but then again who hasn't kicked us in the last 10 years?

He would say he was summing up the feeling of the game, and that he was completely without bias. At least Eddie admits his bias, this fool trys to pretend he is holier than thao.
