Time for Kane to do the right thing. /Captain o' Captain [Merged]

I hate to be pedantic but the literary Tiger in me insists.

It should be:

'Oh Captain! My Captain!

and the lyric isn't dismissive about a *smile* captain. It's mourning the loss of a great one, in this case Lincoln, I think.

Kane has a way to go before he is eulogised like this.

Still, it's refreshing to see a Whitman reference, albeit clumsy, over here in PRE!!! :clap

THIS IS NOT A KNOCK ON DELEDIO.hes a bloody good player

Imo brett should not be given the captaincy under any circumstances. i disagree he is yet to prove anything other than he can play a bit. we have to raise the bar at the club and our captain must be tough aggressive and consistent it would be nice if he can go to another level when required but this is not overly important. i want a captain who will draw a line in the sand and lead from the front. brett may do this in time but at 21 he has done nothing like this in a footy sense.tuck coughlan or foley for me as i said before they are all deficient in certain aspects for the captaincy.
for me if we were to go to a senior player 28+ i would go simmonds.

Foley is lacking too much football awareness and shouldn't be captain under any circumstances. He gets caught with the ball more than Tivendale and Hyde ever did and gives away stupid high tackles too often. He would be a morale sapping captain. (Leads the club in clangers and frees against, 30th for effective disposal. Love the boys run and clearances, but the rest of of his game leaves a lot to be desired. )

Ridiculous post.

Since when did Tivendale & Hyde cop the no1 tag each week?
Ever consider the reasons for those errors is he does most of his work in the heavy traffic?

He stacks up pretty well against Brett Kirk who plays a similar role and is considered one of the best of his type in the AFL

I really think there are two seperate issues here:

1. Captaincy

While the players might have the utmost respect for Kane, inspiring they say ::), at some point one has to ask just what is it that Kane is inspiring them to do - Jack the Ripper can be inspiring too - but in what direction! Now that was a melodramatic comment for effect only - but from it can get my drift. Some statements mean nothing until you drill down. I suspect that how Kane inspires doesn't require him to be Captain - I've heard it mentioned that his preparation is second to none - Ok it keeps being second to none without being a Captain. I've watched him in the rooms once (not on TV) - nothing visibly inspiring there. Look, he can keep doing what is claimed to be inspiring while he remains on the player list. While he is Captain we lose the chance to have a more inspiring player. With Kane our cup is half full - not a tragedy - but wasting opportunity!

2. Player

While the clubs lacks 22-28 aged players on the list, i believe even a slowing Kane is valuable on the list. For the few reasons stated above, he does have at least a modest influence on the playing list in terms of preparation - and never underestimate preparation, especially the little things like timing, routines, body readiness, proper cool-downs, listening skills, what to ask, how to ask, when to ask, who to ask all come under personal management and impacts markedly on players' performance. He's played finals too - a premiership player! He is going to valuable over the next couple of years coming on and off the bench IMO.

SUMMARY

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. But let's at least change the bl00dy water!
All very well but you have not addressed the main issue. As a midfielder who can he be matched up on?

Tagger v Taggee: your right its only one letter different.

A better comparison for your arguement is Foley Bartel, both have high FA, low DE and high Clanger rate.

Past perception. Kirk doesn't tag anywhere as much as he used to. He is a driver for the Swans now.
Often the key tagging jobs go to young Kieren Jack these days.

Not at all but it THE relevant issue and I have looked but I can't find one??

If I am even close, surely that is the end of the matter.

I gave Sugar three votes yesterday because he kept giving it his all right to the last whistle but that I did was a damning reflection on his team mates because his time in the game is nearly up.

Those telegraphed handballs yesterday that put his team mates under the hammer were simply embarrassing.
The 35yr old James Hird was offering the Bombers more in his final year than what Sugar is currently but he had the common sense to call it a day even though he was still offering something.
We are treading the water of mediocrity with Sugar in the guts. He is still trying hard but is too slow and his best is clearly behind him not in front.
I hope he takes a leaf out of Campo's book and calls it a day. We won't miss him next year.

I reckon Wallace will try eek out one more yeah from Kane-o, to try and ensure he gets a 6th year.

If Johnson must play on next year - surely his role will be "off the bench". There is no way that he could be part of the starting 22, so there is no way he could be considered for the captaincy. I wish him well because he has served the club well, and led them at a time when leadership across the group was sadly lacking. But everyone needs to know when their time is up otherwise they get pushed and it becomes awfully embarrassing. Kane, please go in a dignified manner as that would be apt given your service to the club.

His first option when getting the ball is to stop, wait until a team mate is double teamed and under pressure and then handball it to that bloke!

Please Kane, #@*# off back to Adelaide.
