Time to bury "We are not far away" sentiment once and for all

Or more likely the teams we're against are only playng in second gear for a quarter or so and then decide to go up another level and leave us for dead. Sadly we are probably busting a gut and playing close to our maximum potential but we're simply not good enough and the opposition knows they can take us at any time. We are light years away.
Agreed...as soon as the opposition lift their intensity, we get blown off the park.

I also think the opposition coaches wait & see what 'strategic' moves we pull and then they counter them, we have been known to bring Gameplan A only, and as I've said before fitness is the club's biggest issue.

Fitness and conditioning are a massive issue. A lot of posters have commented on it before and the fact still remains that we are massively undersized.

Until the RFC can put out a side that can match it physically with the better sides any improvement will be irrelevant.

Look at what Eade has done with the Dogs. He beefed them up, now they can at least compete. We have to follow the same path.

I would think the change in size/fitness levels will be a given in this review. However it is still 80% above the shoulders and this area should have just as much development thrown at it as the other two.

I think it's safe to say we are so very far away. The next few years are going to be very interesting. If we botch another draft or two in the next say 3 years, the natives will get restless and the club will be under pressure to give some success. Voila - we'll trade pick 19 for another McDud. It's just a nasty cycle and I don't know if those in conrol know how to jump off it.

That is a great point total. God help us should we take a dud with pick 3. We would really want to do our homework and get our development perfect. One more JON like pick will send everyone into panic and we will do something stupid again.

It's sad to say that it has taken this long to review the players size and fitness, for so many years we had a coaching staff getting paid big bucks to deliver.

Time to be honest. We as supporters can see things for what they are. Yeah there are times and seasons we believed the hipe and fell for it. I for one will admit this year was one for me.

I want a coach who is honest too. No *smile*, no lies, no spin. Not another Wallace, "locked and loaded".

I do agree with views on here that once 3-4 of the over 30"s go at season's end , the list will be quite young. There is promise there. I truly believe it. BUT in saying that funds need to be injected into keys areas like development (of the young list /players), skills, fitness and strength. Being careful over the next few pre seasons is i want emphasis placed on those keys areas(body size) without sacrificing skill/fitness aspects to compete with the big bodied type clubs.

Culture as i have said so many times is a key too. Players should be made aware of the clubs history, its great players, what it means to wear the "yellow and black"> An induction program would be good for our young players recruited to the club to go through.

No more "throwing" our picks away on other clubs players. We were promised to grow and develop our own players. This has to happen.

Recruiters job will be a difficult one over the next few years and its imperative we dont waste those picks, trade them, downgrade them. If anything and if possible try , try and get some picks even if its a 3rd/4th round. We need extra picks to give us a chance on getting as many kids on our list.

Criteria on the next generation of kids, the emphasis should be on 1) skill, 2) hardness, 3) work rate, 4) body size and please 5) more key postition players.

We should utilise the rookie draft to its maximum.

We as supporters can bear another 2 years if the above are being met and we can see improvement, effort and passion from the players.

SLOGAN IN 2010

" BUILDING FOR FUTURE SUCCESS "

I just want to hear the coach be honest and I'd like him to be brutally honest when assessing the players. Too much of this media talk crap. The team is going to be down for a long time. My personal belief is that it can't really even start to rebuild until 2011, finals are another 5 years from that and only if they're lucky will they be able to shoot for a Premiership in 10 years time. That is of course providing that the recruiting improves and the right coach is selected. They've spun their wheels for the last 10 years with Frawley and Wallace promising a lot and apparently doing very little.

I think for the most part, supporters support the club and their decisions - which like most decisions made on faith, relies on a blind willingness of the population to avoid questioning motives or reality.
I think the population has tried to do what is 'best' for the club - and at this time, the best thing is to clean house and start again. It just so happens that faith and reality have aligned.
About time i guess, but it is disappointing it had to get to this.
