PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

As our club sits, once again, at the crossroads I feel there is one sentiment which we - and all at the RFC - must banish from our vocabulary.

It's the phrase "We are not that far away", or "Success is just around the corner" and other related terms.

This sentiment has warmed us, fooled us and ultimately contributed to this club's downfall since at least 1995.

Until the club faces the hard reality that we are in fact MILES AWAY from achieving anything in this competition we will simply not move forward.

This sentiment is why our list has more DEAD WOOD than probably every other team; why the club is content to "DABBLE in the DRAFT" rather than wholeheartedly commit; why we continually talk up our kids until they've played a few games then realise OTHER CLUBS have been stocking up too, but with BETTER talent; why our player development is ASLEEP at the wheel; why we are DISASTROUSLY PLACED for the Gold Coast and West Sydney introductions; and why we rest our hopes on high draft picks like Lids and Cotch.

This sentiment is why, in reality, a panel consisting of Phantom, Leysey, Harry and Claw would probably have done a better job of list management over the last few years!

RFC - stop fooling us with EMPTY PROMISES, stop conning yourselves and for god's sake banish "we are not far away" from your thinking and get to work on actually delivering a team with SUBSTANCE!

RFC - stop being the club that TALKS and become the club that DOES.

Rant END.
