PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

I think we all need to have a lie down, chill and gather up all our patience for the following weeks to come.

We are in for a very long year and will no doubt have many more spankings but none to last Saturday’s extent.
I have been one of those dark siders always looking at the negatives, but after some assessments, it’s obvious we are exactly in the position our list ought to be. The cr@p some people are going on about in regards to our younger players is ludicrous. Unfortunately most people don’t realise the lack of leadership and hard bodies our team currently has. It is zero. ZERO. We are expecting blokes like Deledio, Tambling, Meyer and Foley to stand up and go body on body with blokes that have been playing for 6-7 years. It ain’t going to happen. The oppositions best taggers are playing on Deledio, Tambling and Foley. Had these players been in a West Coast, Sydney or Adelaide, they would either have a very weak tagger or none at all,as all the senior players would be getting the hard tags, allowing the youngsters freedom throughout the match to play their games. The media are writing absolute garbage and we are all falling for the same trap laid for years. Eating our own. The talk that we have no KP youngsters is *smile* of the highest degree. What they aren’t writing is the lack of midfield senior quality bodies that we lack. The reason everyone thinks that the eagles and Adelaide have outstanding youngsters is due to the fact that they are allowed to develop in the seniors within their own timeframe. They aren’t expected to win games for them. They aren’t scrutinised each week when the team loses a game.

Although last Saturday was inexcusable youth or not, I think Terry is on the right track and the club as a whole, is moving in the right direction. What we don’t need is everyone pushing the panic button and upsetting the plans in place. When Wallace took over, our club and list was severely, SEVERLEY a rabble, barring 2-3 players. In time Wallace has turned over as many as he could and will continue to do so, with patience the key. Unfortunately players like Deledio, Tambling, Meyer etc won’t be ready to take the senior player mantle until 2009 at the earliest, that leaves us highly exposed for the next 2 years, but we need some pain to have some gain. Saturday’s loss may have been a blessing in disguise, as it will only speed the process of ridding ourselves of that culture of players that have dogged us for years.

For people who thought Gaspar was loyal, well he showed his true loyalty by turning his back on the club when it needed him most. Wallace basically told him what all RFC supporters have wanted all along. Once Thursfield was ready to go, he would be played in Gaspar’s position. How anyone could say that isn’t right for the club is beyond me.

At the end of the season barring a miracle, we will have no 1, 17 and 18 picks. No doubt we will also be cleaning out the closet in regards to players like Tivendale, Knobel, Pettifer and Tuck.

Now is the time to show our true support to the Tigers, when things aren’t going as we’d like. Although I believe they are.

We all questioned Wallace for not playing Deledio in the middle all these weeks, but it showed last Saturday that at the moment his best position is off the half back line hurting the opposition with his drive and skills. Let’s give Terry a bit more credit than we have.
