I wonder where the Club would be now...had Ross Lyon taken over Robert Walls as coach.
Looks like he knows how to get rid of TRASH at a club...he is doing a great job with the Saints.
I have no doubt the Saints would have won 2 flags if he was coach instead of Grant "The Pig" Thomas.

I bet the Tiger "hierachy" that couldn't spot Lyon's talent then are still at the Club now. What a joke !

Would anyone know if the kid that plays for the Saints Jarryd Geary is related to the former Tiger player Richard Geary
who played in the late 80's from memory. He has talent...I wouldn't be surprised if he was the son of Richard, we would have
overlooked him...typical no idea Richmond "hierachy" the past 2 decades.

Tomorrow night against the Roos we will find out the character of our current list...anything short of their best you would have to call them a bunch of "imposters".

1) Seriously, no doubt?

2) Hindsight...well done RB. Perhaps you are clamouring for Brian Royal or Wayne Campbell to take over at the moment...they're assistant coaches too.

3) We already know the character of this team. Don't need to wait another game to find out.

Comeon rainsy look at the lists.

How many 1st round draft picks did Stkilda use on 1st round picks instead of trading them for recycled hacks?

Ross Lyon was a well respected footballer at Fitzroy and much sorted as an assistant coach with stints at Richmond, Carlton & Swans;
He was never in the hunt for the Richmond Head Coaching role in 1997 - After all, he wasn't generating the same hype as Giecsh;
Typical Richmond, blinded by the short term gains at Punt Road.

No connection between Richard and Jarryn Geary AFAIK. Wasn't Richard the player who was told to clear out his locker by Tony Jewell because he was mucking around at training?

A bloke at our cricket club (Richmond supporter!) who is mentoring Jarryn reckons he really lacks confidence and wants to dish the ball off as soon as he gets it. Recently copped a half-time blast from Lyon, along the lines of "Geary, you're playing in the forward line and you haven't kicked any bloody goals, pull your finger out!" His teammates were pretty happy with him when he kicked one early in the third.

Just because Ross Lyon was assistant coach with us in the late 90s doesnt mean he would have had success with us as he currently is with the Saints. And let's not get too carried away, he hasnt really acheived anything yet. The word from one of Lyons fellow RFC emplyees was that Ross had other things on his mind at the time.

I dont think Jarryd Geary is related to Richard and even if he is Richard didnt play anywhere near enough games to qualify for the father son ruling.

Stupid thread, Lyons game plan has clearly been based on Roos game plan which he might not have developed if he didn't go to the Swans.

Agree Ian.

Lyons developed well as an assistant coach.

The saints are flying after taking a while to adapt to Lyons' game plan. He has adopted a lot of what he learnt at the swans.

Okay so there might be some clutching at straws going on, but I'd like to change tack a little if I may.

What do people think is the reason that Lyon has turned the form of the 'Aints around? I'm prepared to offer my unsubstantiated opinion based on a deep dislike of Grant Thomas.

Thomas is another of these corporate wannabes who loves all the jargon and double speak that comes out of management theory: KPA's, KRA's not-negotiables etc. I think maybe the reason Ross Lyon has got through to his players is because he speaks a far plainer form of English, think Chocco Williams without the expletives, and probably better grammar.

Its taken him 3 years though. A big part of it is Baker I reckon.

He can thank his stint at the swans for teaching how to coaching. Couldn't think of many better coaches to learn from then Roos (and Malthouse)

Longmire would be a big consideration for the coaching job
