Have just spent a couple of hours at Punt Road at a Corporate training, with drinks and food afterwards.
Matty White, Rawlings and McCrae were hosting the training, and big Ryan O'Connor being there the whole time, with Don Lord, a Richmond member of the board coming along for drinks, and questions, afterwards.
I ended up with Don Lord's ear for about 20 minutes at the end, being one of the only passionate Richmond supporters, and Ryan came over for about 10 minutes. It was very interesting listening, and asking questions, with my comments thrown in about how Coburg and Richmond played on the weekend. Basically, Don said that all the media speculation the last few weeks was them guessing, and the articles were simply written to sell papers. He said that Terry isn't about to be thrown out, and will most likely coach to the end of the year, unless he resigns, and at this stage, being a professional coach, he won't resign. We will honestly decide on Terry's future in the middle of the year, and, from my prompting, him (Terry) basically being told he won't be the coach if we are 0 and 8, or 1 and 8, you get my drift. If, however, we win the next 4 matches, and things start to look up, there is still a chance of him staying on. If we end up making the finals, he could well coach next year.
Yes, I realise it's a big "if", especially given how we played against Melbourne, and exactly this was put to Don.
But basically, the board meeting voted to keep Terry, and review again in the middle of the year.
I personally agree with Dyer Diciple's post from 2:49 yesterday, which did not seem to contradict anything Don Lord said.
Don also said Patrick Smith is an unliked *smile*, and that's the general consensus from many clubs.
And Caro's article yesterday, basically supporting the board from Richmond, saying they had done a good job, was pretty spot on. Of course he would say that, but my opinion is that, off field, Richmond are doing a hell of a lot better than, say, 4 years ago.
Don said Richie Tambling did a terrific job in front of the Federal minister and others in getting 6.5m to go towards the Richmond Punt Road redevelopment, especially the Indiginous Learning Centre.
And Richmond FC have applied to the council for cricket to be played at the Collingwood footy ground (Vic Park) for matches on the Saturday, with the Richmond cricket club agreeing (I think with a bit of a $ incentive), so training can still go on during the summer months without having to worry about a pitch in the middle of Punt Road. Of course training would still be held at Punt Road, but on the edge of the ground, and not in the middle with a pitch.
I could go on for another 500 words, but that's it for me now. If anyone wants to PM, feel free.
