Tough Draw a good thing?

I was looking at our draw the other day and whilst there are no easy games in today's AFL i'm actually looking forward to see whether we have made steps forward or if last year was a fluke, if we win 2 out of our first six which i think we can that will set us up with a better than average chance of making the 8.

I feel there are teams in the 8 who are nowhere near as good as us and don't have the same quality of youth that we have ie: Port Adelaide, Melb & The Kangaroos to name three, Brisbane aren't as strong, Sydney have lost a lot of experience the only sides that have balanced out are the Eagles (no key forward but a dynamite midfield), St Kilda & Geelong as they all had the youth coming through at a time when we were picking Paul Hudson, Billy Nicholls, Ben Marsh & Simon Fletcher.

We can make it this year if we win 2 out of 6 in the first 1/4 of this season i'll be down the TAB getting a piece if the Tiges for the 8.

Hopefully we'll be better prepared than some teams, we jumped out of the box flying last year (apart from the first game) before the effects of the hard pre-season caught up with us.

If we can get off to a similar good start this year we could catch some teams napping and get some early wins.  Our fitness should hold out better this year with the players having had 2 pre-seasons under Terry.

Our latter half of the draw is better and I think we'll make the 8 for sure.

Not sure if the draw is a good thing or not but it's what we're faced with and we'll need the right mental approach from round 1.

Believe and it's more likely to happen.

Eat 'Em Alive Tiges....I'm excited. :D

Tough draw?
If your good enough you can win anywhere anytime.
ATM for us any side above the bottom 4 is a challenge

Even then it can be a struggle Captain (see Carlton last year, the second game...)

I think an emphisis on trying to be competitive, but also winning a few games throughout the whole season, not just at the start, would be great.

This year will be a really even one. WC & StK should take another step but they both have weaknesses, Sydney are a strong team but they are not outstanding, Adel and PA are also thereabouts, as are Geelong and Melb. Hawthorn are hunting more early picks and probably a new coach.

The questions for me are:

Can WB take the next step and jump up into the top group? Carlton were similarly placed befoer the season started last year and failed miserably.
Can Brisbane turn around last year's slide?
Which of Ess, Carl, Coll or Richmond will improve enough to make the finals?
Will the Kangas fall apart this season or holdout for another year?
What will the Dockers do? They will either go up a notch or self-destruct. This one is fascinating.

The draw is the draw. Many of the teams that are considered difficult games now don't work out that way and several clubs come from nowhere at diffferent times during the season. Not many picked Richmond's and the Kangas good early form last year, the Docker's poor start and middle part of the season, Adelaide's gradual rise, the Bullies flying end to the year or Carlton's flop.

There's been alot of spectator opinions on our draw, frankly if we are good enough then yes, we'll overcome the hard draw syndrome and probably surprise a few. I'll like the Tigers to overcome the Saints, Demons, Cats, & Crows syndrome, and cross the line with the four points, if we can't and continue to be belted by 10+ goals next time we meet, then nothing will have improved.

Exactly.  Not a lot of point in getting a soft draw and winning enough games to make finals only to get belted by one of 6 or 7 teams who belted us during the season.  Kangas last year come to mind-everything went right until the finals when they were shown up as being well below the class required.

Having said that, the scenario above is probably worth at least $500K to a club as it will lead to increased membership and interest from punters in the following year.  Unlike us PRE tragics, most fans only see the results and don't notice the little on-field improvements unless they translate into winning games and playing finals.  Then they come out to play.

Hopefully, the regular 60 point beltings against the good teams will become a thing of the past soon.

Weelll if you ask anything down Scumwood way they would tell you a biased easy draw is a wonderful thing for a side of no talent or sense.

Sensai Tiger, I know what you mean about that lot at Lexus, however as you'll agree we all worry focus on this side of the fence.

The first half of the season and how it may pans out for the Tigers may send the squirrels back in their holes, but if the Tigers come out winning more than losing and the Herald Sun's 1st quarter revenue target is better than forcasted, then it'll be open season. :crazy
