It staggers me that it is taboo to trade first round draft picks for two reasons
1. So many high draft picks are all hype and no substance. kids play well in underage football, then fall in a classic heap in the bigtime.
2. its usually only one or two that stand out.

i would argue that the best time to pick up players is as early as possible AFTER they have proven that they can make it in the big time. You dont need high draft picks. Adelaide have proven this. Doubts still remain over Tambling, Hodge, etc. Very few of them make a real impact in any of their first three years. Good talent scouts should be looking at 20-22 year olds who are showing potential against quality opposition
