Trades and Picks

Anthony Corrie was traded for a very unreal pick because he was contracted and Voss didn't want him on the list.

Therefor to not pay him out by delisting him, they traded him out to Collingwood.

I think Collingwood did extremely well out of it. Young Corrie can play.

Just on Voss, he is letting people know who is boss up there. He doesn't like a few players and let that know. Charman should be interesting next year. Definite heat between the two for a business deal gone wrong, I wonder when Charman comes out of contract, if it is next season we should coax him towards us. Might get him cheaply for the fact he may walk into the pre season draft. He will only be 26 years old?

This trade period to me was a bit of a nothing event, happy to get Thomson, think he will be good for us, but no clubs waned to give up many draft picks at all, therefor we couldn't move the likes of Polo or Pattison or Hughes. I would of pushed hard to release Pattison or Hughes to the Western Bulldogs for pick 31 or 32 that they had. They could of cracked had we made a few deadline attempts.

Assuming we don't get Vickery and we draft a ruck late and at least 1 rookie I'm happy to get White so long as its on minimum wage or close to it..

i think even if we get Vickery we could get White in the PSD.

White is a 1yr option, 2 max.

Vickery as a youngster will spend very limited time in the ruck in the 1st yr (if picked). more likely to play forward with short stints in the ruck until he develops.

Why pick up White? How does it benefit us? I don't get it. We shouldnt be considering 32yo's (yes thats his age at the start of next season)at this stage of our progression. His age and in the ruck, much more prone to injury and harder to get back up for the next game. We need to look for younger mature replacements for Simmonds not older. I like White, thnk he has been a stalwart at the Demons, but if they don't want him anymore at the bottom of the ladder, what benefit is there in us taking him for what I believe would be a maximum two years, more likely one.

Considering the fact we are only going to be drafting 3 players, White should definitely not be one of those.

Pick 8, Pick 26, Pick 58. That's all we are doing. Therefore all juniors, no recyclables.

We will go into season with Troy Simmonds, Adam Pattison, Angus Graham, Dean Putt and a hopefully one junior ruckman in the National Draft and one in the rookie draft as possible ruckman in our squad.

Christ! If we're going to consider stuffing around with White for a year I'd rather elevate Cartridge and tell him he's got twelve months to make himself an AFL career.
Totally wasting a spot by putting a pensioner on the list as a just in case maybe he might be usefull. At least with Cartridge if he steps up we get a career out of him, and he's already ours to start with.

Well Said.

Forget about White.Although we might make the 8 next year we still aren't a top 4 side.

Just keep thrashing Cartledge,Graham and Patto.Whichever one stands up, keep.

That's the thing Evo, none have stood up. If that is the way to go I would keep Cartledge, he is head and shoulders above the other two in terms of being a ruckman.

We could do worse then have White play 60 minutes a week as a bargn basement option. It's a sad state of affairs when a washed up Jeff White is the second best ruck option that your club has. One in the ND and two in the RD please Mr Cameron.

Yeah,I think Cartledge is probably the most likely of those 3.

But given that we already know all three will be on the list next year, then they have to get games so we can definatively sort the wheat from the chaff once and for all.

If White is on the list probably none of them get games.

But why. Do you really care wether we finish 8th or 7th next season?--that's all drafting White for one or two years does. 2011+ is what it is all about in my opinion.

One/ year is enough.

I can see logic in not chasing White for sure but if Simmonds goes down expect a new coach in '10 because I have little faith in anyone else on our list stepping up to fill the void. Still not much point having them there unless we throw them to the wolves at some point.

Yep fair play Evo.

Still would take one in the ND and two in the rookie draft this year and give Gus the flick.
