training for 2018

Lambert and Butler just did laps.Hopefully they step it up next week.

From what i saw today they did not run laps, they walked 1 lap and that was it.

Maybe, just maybe, we really test our depth this week and play every VFL player we can use in half-decent form. Rest the players with considerable niggles and soreness.

Just don't worry too much about the result. Aim for a proper hit-out in the last game against the Doggies when some of the boys with issues have recovered to 90-100% right. Then another week off to follow to be cherry-ripe for finals.

With no VFL game, top of the ladder with top 2 almost sewn up, it's the perfect opportunity to give Moore, Miles, Menadue, Baker, Soldo and Lloyd a run that just assists them be ready for a call-up in the finals if required. It just makes sense. I'd even seriously consider giving Balta his debut game. Use as an extra and swing-man, both down back and up forward, with some bursts as relief ruck.

the other viewpoint in resting too many players is continuity and form. Both individually and the team.
With the week off before finals and ,if we win the Qualifying, another week off. If we make the GF its already 2 games in 4 weeks.

So anyone resting this week will have :
rest- play - rest -play rest - play - GF

Shorter matchtime but all play

Theres no way we wont be trying to finish 1st.

2nd will most likely get GWS in a q final

1st will get Collingwood or Hawks ;D

Hey Caesar, a question: How does AFL/VFL training work? Do the whole AFL list always train together and when do the AFL listed blokes who are playing VFL train with the VFL boys?

The majority of the time most of the AFL listed players train together, not sure how the crossover works with VFL boys

Wouldvve been happy to see him hoyed in for tomorrow night tbh.

Much rather see the young fella run around in a free hit game than Corey Ellis or Menadue.

NOT the main training session today so any observations this early in the week are likely to be way off the mark but will post anyway:

In Rehab today:

Grimes, (looked very ginger, rigid even, jogged slow half laps).
Conca, (Maybe when I said they managed his time well by hardly playing him in the last quarter he actually picked up a niggle?)
Butler, (Half paced straight line running).
George, (Did warm up drills but little else)
Oleg
Ben Miller
Mabs
Drummond
Shai, (Did nothing on ground, recently had a knee op so not sure if we will see him again this year and where is his heart and head leaning for next year?)

No sign of Lambo at all

In better news:

Good to see Cotch Prestia and Astbury training albeit the session was a light one.

He's got 3 weeks to recover Easy.

true.

I spose we cant realistically expect the continuity we enjoyed Aug/Sept 2017, but it'd be nice.

Yeah we pretty much were flying leading into finals last year a few more management issues and player doubts, (Butler and Lambo), this year.

Astbury comes in for Grimes
Prestia for Conca
Cotch for George (Higgins, Rioli and/or LLoyd play more forward than mid).

I know it would/should never happen,

But part of me would like to rest Jack and Dusty,

and reiterate to the football world, that we dont care about Coleman's and Brownlows,

Its all about Team Premierships at Tigerland.
