I see that we are doing some training sessions at the Abbotsford Tip. Previously we have done some sessions at Barker Oval, Sandringham.

Why?

Is it because of the cricket pitch at Punt Road Oval?

If that is the case, why can't we come to some arrangement and have our summer base at Coburg?

If the problem at Coburg is also cricket pitches, surely the Council that controls City Oval could accommodate the cricket club that uses that venue somewhere else. The Richmond/Coburg partnership must bring more revenue and have more drawing power than that of a sub-district cricket club.

It would have to be better for the club to be training at the one venue.

And we surely can't train at the Abbotsford Tip. It's just not right.

In defense of Abbottsford tip. It's playing surface is better than city oval. And it's closer.

The City Oval thing is a huge contentious issue. Coburg, RFC and the VFL wanted (and still do) the ground to be completely re-developed into a state of the art football only facility. The council is the roadblock, otherwise the intention has been for the RFC to have its entire pre-season based at City Oval in future years.

I am interested to see what clubs do when the water restrictions begin to bite.

Where will they go when the grounds become rock hard and there is no water to keep the grounds soft and safe?

most victorian clubs have kicked out their district cricket teams from their old suburban home grounds. richmond is one of the only teams left who still share their home ground with cricket teams... my answer is why??? the RFC is a multi-milion $$$ business... can't say the cricket team is... it's time to move them on so we can train at Punt road 365 days per year

Carlton and Hawthorn will be ahead of all other clubs when it comes to having green playing surfaces to train on.

Put a bit of pressure on them and they go to water
Richmond have a few players that go to water so we mightn't have a problem either.
