One of mates did Botswana and Namibia loved it
Yeah Namibia is great too .. esp the Sand dune surfing . We are in Nata and the river is flooding atm just has a cyclone though .. but got to see 5 Hippos this morning .There are lots of elephants just out of town , lots of pink flamingos and a few lions . Lots of great lodges here too with great food . Were 2 hours from here to Four Corners of Africa; where Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zamibia meet. It is a great spot to stay for visits to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe ( 4 hours away ) or Botswana’s own Chobe National Park. The other great thing is I'm the only Aussie around here so no Collingwood , Carlton , Essendon fans etc here :hihi

Auschwitz is crazy in its own morbid way. I've visited a couple of Nazi concentration camps and once you see it... not only does it chill you to the bone, but makes you amazed that there are still holocaust deniers out there.

Dachau near Munich is the one I saw. Different in that there weren't mass killings there but regardless it's a sobering and very moving experience. You walk out afterwards feeling very hollow.

in 2018 I am going to Russia for the world cup and then going on to Europe with the missus. we have roughly worked out our itinerary, but we are looking for one more city to visit over 3-4 days. I have seen a fair bit of Europe and I am not looking to visit a place I have already been to (which rules out most of the more common destinations). i'm looking for more of a hidden gem. as a prerequisite, I would like this to be a city as opposed to an island/beach destination (as that is already covered on the itinerary). any suggestions?
Been to Bodrum Turkey Ian?? Meet of couple of mates there, hired a boat (gulet) and went round a couple of the islands for a week.

thanks for all of the replies above. we have pretty much worked out our itinerary now after months of discussions and compromises. Instead of me going (on my own) to Russia 2018 for the 3 group games, the missus and I have decided on a cheaper option of basing ourselves in Moscow for a week in the early stages of the world cup, then onto Europe from there. The week will include a 2 day trip to a second host city after the world cup draw is decided in December 1. we have decided to do this even is Australia doesn't qualify.

so anyway... who has been to Moscow? Did they like it? Is it expensive?

Been to St Petersberg during a cruise & did a three day escorted tour. Our guide stressed leave your bags ,handbags etc etc on the coach. One Canadian lady did not adhere & whilst waiting inline to enter the Heritage Museum her bum bag got picked with her Visa , Passport ,ship credentials. Getting around Russia can be quite difficult as locals do not speaka der English & everything in Russian. Most probably during World cup plenty of English speaking guides will be on hand. Have fun anyway.

cheers. I'm just going for a week. 3 days in Moscow, 1 in Samara, 3 in St Petersburg. All flights and accomm are booked, but geez it was expansive and hard to find. I have tickets to Poland v Senegal and Portugal v Morocco and will be applying for Australia v Denmark (in Samara) in the next phase of the ballot. can't wait.

Anybody done Route 66? Trying to find out info from Oklahoma to Vegas
A lot of the original R66 is pretty much just a dirt road now. If it wasn’t R66, it’d be pretty easy to miss.

I nice icon to have a drive on though.
