thanks for all of the replies above. we have pretty much worked out our itinerary now after months of discussions and compromises. Instead of me going (on my own) to Russia 2018 for the 3 group games, the missus and I have decided on a cheaper option of basing ourselves in Moscow for a week in the early stages of the world cup, then onto Europe from there. The week will include a 2 day trip to a second host city after the world cup draw is decided in December 1. we have decided to do this even is Australia doesn't qualify.
so anyway... who has been to Moscow? Did they like it? Is it expensive?
Been to St Petersberg during a cruise & did a three day escorted tour. Our guide stressed leave your bags ,handbags etc etc on the coach. One Canadian lady did not adhere & whilst waiting inline to enter the Heritage Museum her bum bag got picked with her Visa , Passport ,ship credentials. Getting around Russia can be quite difficult as locals do not speaka der English & everything in Russian. Most probably during World cup plenty of English speaking guides will be on hand. Have fun anyway.
