Listening to MMM yesterday they were discussing how Richmond have only recently implement a development program for their draftees. Then they compared this to Collingwood who are the benchmark in this area.

So no recruiting department, only very infant development program :o :o :o :o

No wonder our kids go no where. I just wonder if Deledio Tambling and co were drafted to a professional outfit whether they would have excelled quicker. It's 2007 FFS how can a club only recently implement that sort of department within a football club???

It's called dollars, and unfortunately the numpties that had been running the club for so long forgot all about it.

Hopefully with the right structures in place we will start seeing more and more money put into club development and structure.

Aknowledge that. 100% correct. It still dosent excuse the situation but I accept it as a main underlying reason

Just on that point, isnt it amazing that players such as Goldsack, Clarke and even to a certain extent Travis Cloke are playing well.

Nothing against Goldsack but he wasnt rated as highly as his peers. Martin Clarke hadent even touched a football before he came out here and Cloke is in only his third season. Arent talls supposed to take 5 years?? Cloke has been brilliant for a tall in just his third year. And you know what else, Malthouse wasnt afraid to play him all last sesaon. Cleve Hughes in his second season gets 4 games, 2 of those games he kicks 3 goals, where is he??

I'm glad you mention Cloke TF. I don't know how he continues to play well while having to share a forward line with Rocca.

They would be thriving in any environment where a side had genuine star players, particularly in the midfield.
We have one or two aging champs neither of whom play on the ball and that's it!

It all comes down to not having enough good senior players to take the heat off the youngsters and let them find their feet at senior level. Unfortunately our youngsters ala Deledio, Tambling, Polo etc are expected to win us the game each week.

It is a weakness now but will be a strength in two or three years. The Collingwood comparison is a good one. How long before Buckley, Rocca, Burns, Wakelin, Clement, Presti, Licuria, Holland, O'Bree and Lockyer are all gone?

This season and probably next year are the last harrahs of an aging list.

It's why Craig McRae was brought in. He did mention yesterday if I recall that he'd had to build up the program.

Cloke was always going tobe a gun sooner or later though. You'd (The club) want them to be when you wasted 2 draft selections on his brothers just to snare him.

On the MMM story, gee still pumping up the Pies (Eddie's tyres), suprise suprise ::)

Amazing how a club with a lot more money than us with world class training facilities can implement programs before us.... We are seeing slow but sure improvement in the off field side, we just can't do it as quickly as the likes of Collingwood can.

A coach like Malthouse doesnt worry about ageing lists. He implements the right steps and has back ups ready for all the departing players.

What Wallace is doing isnt working at all. Its a young list with few leaders
