Just watched the game and paid particular attention to Cartledge.

For mine, I didn't see anything too hopeful. He gives little around the ground and in this area, Pattison is better. But his presence highlighted that a "real" back-up ruckman is of benefit and this has to be a priority. Gus or Putt need to get motoring as there's a spot there. Either that or we need to pull a Doggies type trade in getting a Ben Hudson - or the Swans in getting Jolly.
It seemed like the swans payed over the odds for Jolly but he's turned uot pretty damn descent.

Hard to find a good ruck and a good 10 year one is worth their weight in gold.

Fingers crossed on Putt, because I doubt Graham will make it.

Other than Otto I don't remember the last time Richmond drafted a good kid that turned out to be a pretty handy ruckman.
We seem to trade for them Stafford, Simmonds, Knobel, and even as far back as Greg Dear
We'll probably do the same again.

Didn't Cartledge put a nice kick to advantage to Morton? Great mark to Morton though which probably made the kick look better than it was and it was. A 2 on 1 situation I think. I'll reserve my judgement, but he tried hard despite looking nervous. His first game at AFL level for a long time, so I'd say he get a good pass mark. Good work Tristan, keep working hard mate. :clap

Probably better than Patto, skill wise. Patto is more experienced and he looks better with the ball than Patto

Tristan is a year older than Patto and I don't know how much Couburg you have been watching but just based on his 7 disposals on Saturday (which admittedly isn't nearly enough to properly judge) his disposal is clearly worse than Patto, watch the tape.

I think we got pretty good value out of Stafford and Simmonds is certainly more than handy. Knobel had credentials but ended up injury prone. Dear was good at Hawthorn, probably got him a bit late.

Overall out of that list don't think we have done too bad.

I'm not saying we haven't but it seems we don't draft ruckmen till very late in the draft.

Leysy's no huge wrap for Tristan but his kicking is far better than Patto's Col. Without question.

He deserves the final 2 games to see if he's worth a spot on the list.

Cartledge is a better tap ruckman than Pattison but he's no athlete.

Pattison is better around the ground, as his bigger tank enables him to get to more contests.

Pattison is better when the ball hits the ground.

With regards to disposal, I think they're pretty similar, however Pattison (like McGuane) looks awkward.

Don't know where all this leaves Graham, perhaps out in the cold, if we get Vickery.

Sheedy was the master of recruiting mature ruckmen from other clubs and getting good footy out of them - eg, John Barnes. Seems he prescribed to the theory that ruckmen with top picks can be a bit speculative. You could argue that Josh Fraser and Brad Ottens haven't quite lived up to the lofty heights expected of them. (If you hate Carlton juuuust enough - you could hope things tun out that way with Kreuzer).

There's also the more regular pattern of ruckmen doing well after being taken with low picks or even as rookies - ala Dean Cox.

There's plenty of examples of ruckmen playing their best footy past 25 and at their 2nd club - and we did really well with Stafford, Simmonds and Dear (less well with "Strawbs" O'Dwyer! and David Honybun). Other clubs would be happy with Hudson, Everitt, Jolly and even Cameron Cloke & Chris Bryan. I actually don't mind the idea. You can probably tell more about the potential of a small/mid at 17 than of a ruckman. Brings some science to the inexact science of drafting I suppose.

Maybe Patto will turn out well. Seems to have most of the tools but about 2-3 inches too short for mine.
Maybe Warnock will be the next ruckman to flourish at his new club?

agree with the second bit, Leysy, but I presume the first is based on 'burg form

Made a couple of blues early but seemed to settle into things in the 2nd half. Looking forward to seeing what he can produce in the last two games.

gotta give him a go. looks awkward and is slow with his hands, exactly like pattison. The advantage with cartlege is that he's alot taller than patto, he has a presence at the centre bounce with his height which makes the opposition ruckman hav to think a little more about how they're going to combat him. would be quite happy for him to play the remaining games to show what he can do.

Wouldnt say far better Leysy. However Patto has the Handball down to a tee[Few tips from flea perhaps] compared to Cartlidge.

Cartlege in my opinion didn't look to offor us much. Has a good build but in my opinion Patto has a much better future. Now that Patto's skills have improved and has the gameplan down he's looking like a very good player and works well as a relief ruckman for simmo
