I’ve been doing a bit of research on a unique phenomenon that usually appears after a Richmond loss. The PREnd troll* (Trollicus prendicus bloodyirritatingus) is an evil mental parasite which preys upon the brains of sensible posters (PREnder sensibilicus).
It’s best to ignore these creatures. PREnd trolls know no fear and attack unceasingly, demanding responses from their prey. Negative threads appear with regular monotony as soon as the siren sounds.
The troll posts controversial comments to incite responses, which it needs to feed it’s ego from; hence, the best way to manage a troll is simply to ignore it. Deprived of nourishment, it will soon starve.
There are several ways of recognising a troll. Posts lack imagination and are often the same comments repeated ad nauseum. They rarely answer a direct question other than to repeat their tired old comments. They are incapable of sensible conversation. Their posts are designed directly to invoke a response. They get obscene delight in Richmond failing.
Trolls are immune to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You can’t negotiate with them; you can’t cause them to feel shame or compassion; you can’t reason with them. They can’t be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules of courtesy or social responsibility. They appear incapable of intelligent conversation.
Trolls live their lonely lives through those they see as strong and successful. Disrupting a message board gives the illusion of power making them feel strong too.
Trolls welcome any response. They are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.
Trolls are cowards; they'll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that's what they do!).
When you try to reason with a troll, he wins. When you insult a troll, he wins. When you scream at a troll, he wins. The only thing that trolls can't handle is being ignored.
