TV Coverage / Foxtel [Merged]

Sent the following email to the AFL....I look forward to the standard automated response!::

I would like to point out an anomoly relating to the new AFL TV deal. In Brisbane this week, Channel 10 are covering the Brisbane v Collingwood game on Saturday night. This game is a Foxtel game but channel 10, pursuant to their obligations under the tv deal are showing this game live into Brisbane.

However, Foxtel are also showing the Brisbane v Collingwood game on Fox Sports 1. The Richmond v Essendon game is not available until early the next day on Fox Sports 1.

This scenario is not uncommon under this tv deal, with other scheduled games being put on the back shelf in favour of Brisbane live games. But this week, we have the annual Dreamtime at the G game, one of the marquee games on the annual AFL calendar. Unfortunately for anyone that is not a Brisbane Lions supporter, this game will be missed unless they stay up until the early hours of Sunday morning.

This solution is easily solved in Brisbane through the use of Foxtel's Main Event channel. This channel is already broadcasting the Richmond v Essendon game but this channel is only available to NSW and ACT viewers on Saturday nights. Why can this game not also be available to Brisbane viewers so, like the rest of the country, we have the right to choose the game we wish to view?

This is a most dissatisfactory outcome of the new (and supposedly improved) tv deal in which there were apparently no more tv blackspots.

I appreciate nothing may be able to be done about this at such a late stage, but I encourage the AFL to work to resolve this issue going forward.

Regards

Bloody AFL,vladimir and Channel 7 QLD.....

This is the WORST footy coverage Ive seen since me mate bomberjohn(God rest his soul) and I graced the
original Tiger and bomber sites.
I will get me pay telly happening when my work gets a full head of steam.
Mind you,I was talkin to some ex-Victorians who had a peek at the saints-Hawks game.
They reckon its was like watching two snails havin a head-on collision....very dull...very ordinary.
Maybe im not missin much...although the Tigers must have given a good account of themselves against the crows...mind you...the game was advertised as being live on friday nite.....but guess what....they put on a bloody NikkyKidman movie instead! Its a hard country for a young tigerfan Im tellin yas for free..... ???

Did you get a reply I would be interested to compare it to my response. AFL are a disgrace there is no reason this cant happen unless it clashes with something on Main Event Channel. It is a joke.

No response unfortunately. They couldn't even ackowledge me with an automated response. Not that I'm surprised. The AFL is not in the business of satisfying consumers, particularly supporters of insignificant clubs like Richmond.

I agree it frustrates me. The first time I wrote in I got a response. Then I responded to their email as I did not believe what htey said the first time was acceptable, their response to be honest seemed arrogant and uncaring of the football supporter and not acceptable so I wrote back again mentioning this Main Event thing (which they ignored the first time) and did not get a response. Two weeks later I wrote in again using my sent email asking them for a response they responded but again failed to mention this aspect nad again gave a half stocked anwer that osunded more encouraging but nonetheless felt like a 'this is what you want to hear' answer without seeming to sound like they wer actually doing this. I then wrote in again as a response mentioning this Main Event Channel thing and htey said they were still in negotiation. I got that one back the same afternoon.

I think the AFL know they *smile* up this TV rights deal in the name of money and that average uspporters will lose out and htey do not seem to give a *smile* , and as far as I am concerned it is a disgrace. Please share your response if you eventually get it and dont be afraid to be pushy with them, hopefully if enough people mention i they will fix this disgraceful situation in non-Victorian states.

I will re-send my email. For what it's worth, I am happy for anyone that shares my views to cut and paste my email into their own email and send to the AFL. We can bombard them with the same email. I'm sure one of us would get a response.
