Sent the following email to the AFL....I look forward to the standard automated response!::
I would like to point out an anomoly relating to the new AFL TV deal. In Brisbane this week, Channel 10 are covering the Brisbane v Collingwood game on Saturday night. This game is a Foxtel game but channel 10, pursuant to their obligations under the tv deal are showing this game live into Brisbane.
However, Foxtel are also showing the Brisbane v Collingwood game on Fox Sports 1. The Richmond v Essendon game is not available until early the next day on Fox Sports 1.
This scenario is not uncommon under this tv deal, with other scheduled games being put on the back shelf in favour of Brisbane live games. But this week, we have the annual Dreamtime at the G game, one of the marquee games on the annual AFL calendar. Unfortunately for anyone that is not a Brisbane Lions supporter, this game will be missed unless they stay up until the early hours of Sunday morning.
This solution is easily solved in Brisbane through the use of Foxtel's Main Event channel. This channel is already broadcasting the Richmond v Essendon game but this channel is only available to NSW and ACT viewers on Saturday nights. Why can this game not also be available to Brisbane viewers so, like the rest of the country, we have the right to choose the game we wish to view?
This is a most dissatisfactory outcome of the new (and supposedly improved) tv deal in which there were apparently no more tv blackspots.
I appreciate nothing may be able to be done about this at such a late stage, but I encourage the AFL to work to resolve this issue going forward.
Regards
