All this talk about trading I thought I would look at Terry's record at the Bulldogs. While he did give away some good ones and pick some duds on average the players he picked up did a fair bit more than the ones he let go. Its a comforting thought.

Recruited to Bulldogs under Terry Wallace
Daniel Bandy 45,
James Cook 49,
Todd Curley 115,
Nathan Eagleton 116,
Simon Garlick 137,
Hudson 108,
Ben Harrison 85,
Kingsley Hunter 57,
Allen Jakovich 7
Aaron James 1,
Mathew Robins 106,
Andrew Wills 10,
Nicky Winmar 21,
Brad Wira 61

Traded from Western Bulldogs under Terry Wallace
Leon Cameron 84,
Craig Ellis 15,
Daniel Hargraves 3,
Josh Mahoney 18,
Michael Martin 10,
Brett Montgomery 126,
Rischard Osborne 29,
Jim Punkett 37,
Stephen Powell 112,
Barry Standfield 13

Traded from Western Bulldogs when Terry Started
Kym Coster 95,
Simon Cox 35,
Iljia Grgic 23,

Not 1 outstanding player there listed that he recruited... Cameron to richmond, powell to melbourne and then to st kilda & montgomery to port adelaide (all-australian) was a big loss...

I think trading has changed alot from the mid to late 90's aswell. Many of the players that used to get traded were set for the scrap heap anyway.

Where clubs used to spend trade week swapping trash, most clubs are now prepared to deal a big name for the right price.

Thats a positive thing to see that the clubs arent so frigit as they used to be. I always wished it would be the case as it adds more excitement like other professional sports (nba, nfl, epl, etc).

The other thing it brings is a realistic opportunity to make a club become much more balanced as clubs are prepared to trade bigger name players in return for what they need.

To this day id say TW and Max Walker would be regretting the trading of Jimmy Plunket :rofl :rofl :rofl

I'm not 100% sure on this but I think last off-season the Eagles didn't make one move in trade week, not one trade at all. It goes to show if we can get the talent in place we won't need other teams rejects to come in and "Boost" our list. Get the right kids in place and the rest will follow.

Morrison and Stenglein for starters if I recall

Knew it was one of their goodish Mid sized players, pulled the wrong rein with Gilbee.
