tw made the best suggestion i have heard in footy for years.
with the huge footy rights deal starting next year, he think the AFL should give prizemoney incentive to win games. instead of giving each club and extra $2 mil per year, he suggested this:
- give each club $900k instead of $2 mil
- put the remaining 1.1 mil in a prize pool
- times that by 16 and you get a pool of $17.6 mil
- there are 176 games in an AFL season.
- so they put up $100k for grabs every game
- every team that wins gets $100k
- so if you win 15 games you win $1.5 mil
- if you win 10 games you win $1 mil
- if you win 5 games you win $500k
- so if it's round 20, and 15th plays 16th. instead of playing for draft picks, you give them incentive to win by putting 100k on the line.
- sensational idea as it gives teams incentive to win.
