You threw me so much for a loop with this comment you had me looking into this a bit more in case I was going nuts. I used to not be a big fan of sandilands tap work, as in taps to advantage but I also underestimated just how much his improved in the last couple of years and he's still only young as far as rucks go.
Sandilands despite contesting the 3rd most ruck contest got 75 more taps than anyone. Just because his a big goof? Maybe but it's still impressve he got more taps than anyone in the last 20 years and he's shown more than that by having the best taps to advantage ratio of the Top 8 rucks. It's not his fault any longer the midfield suck around him. He's improved. They haven't.
He launched 70 more scores than any player in the comp and of the ruckman had the most contested possessions, clearances and hardball gets.
What more can you ask fairly?
Saying his only decent because of his size is a bit like saying Tony Lockett would not have been so good if he was the size of Aaron Fiora.
For mine he was a awful tap ruckman a couple of years ago, he didn't seem to understand rucking at all. I used to wince seeing him dominate smaller rucks because he wasted his taps so frequently and played stupid. His really improved his understanding of the game. I was shocked to see how much his improved recently as I didn't rate him much from a tap perspective myself.
I've never been a huge mark for Sandilands but his improvement ratio is staggering considering his young age and massive size. His easily in the elite rucks in the league and your saying Gus (who as much as I hope he does, I still don't think he's going to make it as a second ruck let alone 1st) is a better future prospect? Clearly you see something in Gus I don't. Love to know what it is, because I support all our players but find it hard everytime I watch him play to imagine he is going to cut it.
