Two Irish Teenagers sign with Brissie

That's interesting thanks Bark....the more Irish accents in the AFL the better. :inlove

I guess the Irish players need some kind of guarantee to come over from Ireland but aren't sure how it works.

Don't players from non-afl backgrounds have to go through the rookie draft?

Hi,

I don't know much about it, but I do know that there is a date for nominating international rookies which is December 2nd. The International rookie draft follows a few days after the National Draft and a few a few days before the regular rookie draft.

I'd imagine if you were intending to make a project player out of an Irish recruit that you'd want to make a commitment to that player for more than one season. I don't think we're financially up to that yet.

Currently we can take on local rookies with a single year commitment. We don't need to alter our rookies fundamental understanding of the skills of AFL footy. All of the local kids have an understanding and skill level to a reasonable level.

Maybe when we're up to Brisbane & Sydney's level financially, and our footy dept is sufficiently well developed, it should be something we could look at.

Considering that a year or two ago our recruiting department was nicknamed "Clayton", well, there's a long way to go.

Small steps.

Let's get our recruiting of rookies generally in order, then we can look at the next step.
