Surgery for Zantuck after punch
By Rohan Connolly
February 06 2003

Talented Richmond youngster Ty Zantuck faces at least six weeks out of football
after allegedly being king-hit at a South Melbourne nightclub last Saturday.

Zantuck had his cheekbone broken by the blow, which club officials claim was
unprovoked and occurred as he left the Motel nightclub late in the evening.

He is expected to have surgery at the weekend and will miss at least four and more
likely six weeks of action.

Richmond football manager Greg Hutchison said the club first became aware of the
incident when Zantuck rang him on Sunday morning. "He got back to a friend's place
and the friend looked after him. He didn't think he was too bad at the time.

"But he woke up in the morning a lot worse and rang me. We got him to the hospital
and spent the day there.

"There was nothing (no provocation) involved in it. I've done a fair bit of research
into it and there was no reason why he would have been hit. There was nothing
beforehand, he just got whacked."

Hutchison said that while Zantuck would miss most of the pre-season competition, the
Tigers hoped the setback would not affect his start to the season proper. "Hopefully
after a week or so, he can get back on the bike as well as do some running,"
Hutchison said. "The only thing he will have to avoid is contact work."

Zantuck, 20, was one of the shining lights of a disappointing season last year for
the Tigers, establishing himself as a senior regular and finishing ninth in the club
best and fairest.

Richmond president Clinton Casey has been re-elected by the Tigers' board to remain
at the helm for the next three years.

Casey, 45, who replaced Leon Daphne as president at Punt Road at the end of 1999, is
also acting as stand-in chief executive until Richmond fills the role.

Previous chief executive Mark Brayshaw resigned at the end of last year.

Speaking from the Tigers' training camp at Traralgon yesterday, Casey said he
expected the new chief executive to be in place by the end of next month.

"We are just about to go to the marketplace and hopefully we will have the right
person in place for the season of the season," he said.

"We're really in no rush and I'll stay in the role until such time as we get someone
suitable."

Interesting comment re our New CEO - sort of puts a different slant on the Balmey rumours

Interesting to note Zantuck played in Heidleberg 2nds on Saturday.Apparently hasn't improved his training habits.Another successful recruiting story at tigerland.

Hmmm!

For a minute there, and knowing Zantuck's weaknesses, I thought this was going to be a "vale" notice.

Even funnier is that Sheedy drafted him after us!

Yeah, let's have him as our next coach.

Having known him (from afar) around the Strathmore area I was thinking the exact same thing.

Wasn't Pagan whne at Carlton keen to get him as well after he spent a year in QLD?

C'mon people... drop the topic and never mention his name again.

No time to dwell on past mistakes (also because the list is so long you fall asleep reading through it) time to stay focused on the future... waaaaay into the future

Zanners, along with the underated Tim Fleming, was one of the few tough nuts at our club. Has been sorely missed at Punt Rd.

For a second there I thought Koalalill was back. ;D

What a timely reminder I should send Lil a bunch of flowers. :hihi

Not long before she left PRE her husband, Peter Priest, sent me a pretty heavy e-mail making certain demands in regard to a poster on PRE and threatening to report us to the Ombudsman if we didn't oblige. I didn't know how the Ombudsman worked so I rang them myself. I found out that Peter's threat was useless because the Ombudsman has nothing to do with that kind of issue.

Anyway the info I did find out came in handy yesterday. After discussions with Telstra failed recently I contacted the Ombudsman in relation to $300 of received phone calls while we were in China. Yesterday Telstra rang me and offered to credit my phone acct with $800...a nice profit. :D

Ty actually kicked 5 goals in a game for the tiges.
Thats 5 more than all of you on here put together :hihi

That makes it worse then. When someone has a talent but prefers to drink it away, I feel no sympathy at all for them.

Its it ashame there are more things in life besides football.
like having fun, having a beer, going to the races, travel etc etc
