Tyrone Vickery

Maybe there is nothing wrong physically with Vickery. It seems to me that he emerged in 2011 from the background of defences becoming very Jack-conscious and he took advantage of opponents who were zoning off towards Jack to double and triple team him. There was less pressure on him last year than he is experiencing at present.

Now, in 2012, opponents are paying due respect to both Jack and Vickery. Miller is the new beneficiary.

Sorry Tottie I don't buy it. It doesn't explain his complete ineffectualness.
He was clunking some very difficult contested marks last year and looked far more mobile at ground level.
This year he's barely looked like it.

I really doubt it is eye surgery, which loads of footballers including Benny have had sucessfully before. I think it is lack of confidence both in presenting on the lead, and in plucking his marks. Have a look of the tape of the Adelaide game last year where he comes on after a shoulder knock and throws himself at a pack to take a huge mark. He needs to get back to playing on instinct and attacking the footy (easier said than done).

I remember hearing something recently about another player having laser eye surgery recently and went to check.
Both Hampson and Dawes had the surgery over the recent off-season.
Certainly hasn't hurt Hampson's marking but Dawes hmmm similar ouput to Vickery but I was putting it down to having to do the ruckwork as well as forward.

Maybe it's nothing more than a simple combination of small factors.
There's been some crap delivery to our forward line in a couple of games.
Opposition sides are paying a bit more attention to our key forwards.
Dimma's been pushing to get a far wider spread of goal kickers each week.
Two of the three sides we've played are touted as top four sides.

Swish has been right off his game, Jaaack has been off in the aspects of his game that most people love and has been scrounging little taps and toe pokes to have an input. Perhaps Pia has been a beneficiary of the the aforementioned and nicely popped in to grab a few bonus goals.

Still a loooong season to be played out, if we can get a few more weeks where our second stringers hog the limelight then opposition clubs are going to be forced to pay more attention to them and leave our higher profile players a slightly more honest contest in the process.

Agree with this 100%. Irrespective of his numbers (which I'm sure are worse) he just looks a shadow of himself this season.

If he plays again this week I would like to see him attack the pack marks with far more aggression. Right now he is virtually standing still and sticking his hands in the air. I am 183cm tall and could defend against a player doing that.

However I think he will be dropped. Would prefer Griffo to come in but think it will be either Posty or TommyD.

Can assure you KB is a regular visitor to PRE!!

Agree TOO. Has got his hands on enough balls to have more than doubled his marking tally. Has been awful and should be dropped although I actually think his ruck work has been a little better this year.

Dimma's got his thing about settling a backline. But the thing we have to do with Ty is get him to work for a living. He has to stand in the hole south of the arc (CHB), mark the ball and take his lumps.

Or go to Coburg 2s.

Right now he's got a sense of entitlement you could park your car in.

Caro on 3AW last night said that she'd asked the club about the laser eye surgery rumours and the club denied them.

I just think there is a lot of over analysing going on about Vickery. He is out of form and confidence, it happens.

He is too good a player not to get it back.

He just needs to get back to working harder on the ground- the results will come as long as he is approaching it the right way.

I agree. I watched the 3rd quarter of the Demons game again yesterday, just for fun. I looked out for Vickery, he was not sighted until there was 13 minutes to go, I assume he was on the bench. When he was back in the forward line, the next 2 inside 50s were Jacko kicking both out on the full. The one after that Tyrone made a good lead about 40 meters out on a slight angle, Houli chose to go to Jack closer to the boundary who shaved the post for a point.

He then went into the ruck and won the next 2 contests, the first tap although not to advantage, was the running Martin goal. The second one I think was a great tap onto Foley that finished in another forward thrust.

After that he was back into the forward line where there was really only one more contested mark situation, a mauling pack that he didn't make a very good fist of. The rest of the quarter was mostly forward press situations, hardly Tyrones strong point. I'm pretty sure he was subbed out in the last quarter.

So, in summing up, no doubt he is out of form and lacking in confidence. I don't think the current Tigers game style is suiting him nearly as much as last year, very few lead up mark situations that I saw going begging, however plenty of long bombs in that T.V. is not taking advantage of. Plus, his team mates will know how he is travelling, as noted in Houli's pass to Jack on the boundary when Vickery was clear and in a better field position. His ruck work was very good for a 2nd ruck at any age, let alone one so young, he is almost earning his place on that alone. Until Bo is smashing it at Coburg I don't see any problem giving Tyrone a couple more games to show a bit of form.

I thought that as well, although I didn't follow TV particularly.
