The places he is running to makes you think he is the decoy - but then he gets furious they don't kick 50m cross goal passes to the far pocket. There were plenty of times last night where Jack had led out to CHF and instead of sprinting to the goal line with his smaller opponent he jogged to the far pocket 25 m out and just pointed. He is not slow, he is not lazy, he just has forgotten how to get dangerous.

Hardwick made mention after the game of the importance of TV's role in taking the focus away from Jack.

The goal he kicked in the last from nearly 50 out was magnificent and would have instilled confidence in Vickery. I think his efforts around the ground are just on par, however taking the centre bounces really is a worry and he lacks aggressiveness. St. Kilda would get the ball out with ease when Vickery rucked and would have amassed more centre clearances. We bled in the centre when he rucked however some of the blame can be pointed to our midfield.

Yeah but that's a bit like your mum saying "great effort darling" when you got a C- in PE.

I actually agree with Barnzy. I hang it on him because his efforts are disappointing( looks slow and doesn't know where to position himself). Griffiths who has only played a handful of games seems more sure of himself and more aware of whats around him. Its only because he kicked that goal that he hasn't been crucified on PRE (by myself and others). I hope he improves cos its an exciting time for Tigers fans ATM.

Just to repeat what I said above
Hardwick made mention after the game of the importance of TV's role in taking the focus away from Jack.
Then again tonight on Ch 10 - Jake King made a special mention of exactly the same thing.
Look I reckon he's doing well anyway.
But could it be a case that we as fans are not picking up on stuff that might be exactly according to the coaches instructions and that his performance should not just be judged on his own personal marks, kicks, goals etc?

Yep agree with this. From both Dimma and now Kingy now both it seems have come out and said he is doing things right and important structually to the team.

On a side note i had to laugh at Kingies comment on his role down there in the forward line and he said it was number one to put defensive pressure on and also to make sure the to keep the structures in place up forward as Jack seems to lose focus at times (this was said with a rueful smile). Good fun stuff.

Vickery was open on the lead quite a few times on friday night. A mix of the ball carrier not going to him and poor positioning cost him 2-3 goals imo. I take the point about taking the focus away from Jack but he still needs to get more dangerous.

Got it - he's our decoy :P

His around the ground kicking wasn't very good Friday so I was worried when he lined up for that goal but he delivered. He'll get there just needs to keep working hard.

Yes he chopped the ball up a few times early, but the good thing was he actually, for the first time this year, got a fair bit of the ball. Some good signs

Quite right.

Have to dstart finding it before you can do anything else.

I'd say Ty is on the way back to some form.

Yeah, those miss kicks weren't anything to get too worried about. He was just getting a bit smart arsey, which the coaches will beat out of him watching the video on Monday. There was nothing structurally wrong with how he kicks

agree. the one going forward was caused by him stepping inside then having no other option to kick to. bad decision rather than a poor kick.
the 2nd was TV trying to kick to get too cute.

his kicking generally is good, and i reckon he is showing signs of being on the up.

the one big plus with Vickers is he can release Maric to go up forward, and Jack turns into a very good crumbing forward playing off a tall

A point, if I may, directly towards Vickery.

I'm not quite sure how important he thinks he is to the structure of the team but he is ......, extremely important.

Vickery did some nice things the other night, although there were some kicking blunders early on. The key was his improved mobility around the ground, as well as being that 200cm target up forward.

My advice to him would to be absolutely and fully conscious of the fact that being 200cm makes him one of about 2 or 3 vital target players in the team. Arguably more important a target than Jack Reiwoldt.

It means that every time the ball is gained within 50-60 metres of his area, he must be in a position to make himself a marking target.

I noticed a few too many times that the boys did gain possession within 50-60 metres of Vickery. They looked to him as a target, they looked for him, but his lack of awareness placed him in a position not to receive.

There was no better example than a I.Maric mark in the 2nd quarter, on a HBF, where his best target should have been Vickery on a wing. Vickery's lack of awareness had him running towards goal, with his back turned on Maric. Other running players can run back to position, but a 200cm target needs to have the awareness to place himself in the position to immediately receive a kick. Maric kicked it to Vickery anyway, 'cause he had to. Vickery, unaware till the last moment, lost it and a turnover resulted.

To Vickery, I implore. You are a mobile 200cm player with good marking and kicking skills that other 200+cm players on the list don't have. You need to be constantly aware that you are a marking link in play. You need to make yourself a constant marking target. Players are looking for you and need you to be constantly aware.

As a CHF target, you can come right up to the back end of the centre square to be the target. But be aware that you are always that target, make yourself a target and be prepared to receive.

I hope someone actually in contact with Vickery passes this on.

Love this. Vickery as the primary target moving forward out of the back line is ideal. He could be the Mark Viduka of our team. The big skilled immovable obstacle up forward that brings the running mids into the game. And good enough to kick a bundle of goals himself.
