Trump got 3 million fewer votes than Hillary Clinton. And everyone hates Clinton. Trump is a criminal, an idiot, a bully, a moron, a fraud, a criminal, a liar, a criminal, a piece of ****, and he has a small, mushroom-shaped *****. As has been the conservative model here since Howard, he appeals to the worst in people, and to the worst people - but on steroids.

Unfortunately, the Democratic establishment are just as corrupt as the Republicans, just as beholden to the rich and to corporations, otherwise they'd ride Bernie all the way to the White House and real reform that actually starts making the US what it claims to be.

Bingo. Right now it looks like Trump romps into a second term. And that is utterly depressing.

Don't disagree on Trump but Bernie is unelectable I reckon - see Jezza Corbyn for that. Need a centrist leftie to get in, then can move further left once in, if that's your (whoever's) brand of politics.

Mate the people backing Sanders are full-on Antifa types. Even the NYT referred to them as "militants".

Sanders is a crazy man and will chase swinging voters to the other side in the same way the Greens have done here.

- open borders
- free tertiary education
- double the minimum wage
- free health care to illegal immigrants
- prisoners can vote
- high taxes

He won't oppose firearms though.

Basically plans to take from achievers and give to people who don't deserve, or are yet to deserve. Bernie's a revolutionary who praises communism. A mad ****.
Sanders is not crazy, that's absurd hyperbole. Far more evidence Trump is the crazy one.

The people backing Bernie? You mean the greatest number of individual donors any candidate has ever had? They're all fringe loonies? You can't be serious. I repeat, a quarter of Republicans voted for him. He's been in the Senate for 39 years.

It would be far more accurate to describe Trump supporters as stupid, racist, fascist, *smile*, even though not all of them are.

- open borders? Really? Quote the policy.
- free tertiary education? Good.
- double the minimum wage? To $15 an hour. So people don't need three jobs to keep a roof over their heads.
- free health care to illegal immigrants? Quote the policy.
- prisoners can vote? Do you mean while in prison, or after release? Can you quote the policy?
- high taxes? For the very very wealthy. Amazon paid 1.2% tax last year.

He won't oppose firearms though.? Here's his gun policy:
  • Take on the NRA and its corrupting effect on Washington.
  • Expand background checks.
  • End the gun show loophole. All gun purchases should be subject to the same background check standards.
  • Ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons. Assault weapons are designed and sold as tools of war. There is absolutely no reason why these firearms should be sold to civilians.
  • Prohibit high-capacity ammunition magazines.
  • Implement a buyback program to get assault weapons off the streets.
  • Regulate assault weapons in the same way that we currently regulate fully automatic weapons — a system that essentially makes them unlawful to own.
  • Crack down on “straw purchases” where people buy guns for criminals.
  • Support “red flag” laws and legislation to ensure we keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and stalkers
  • Ban the 3-D printing of firearms and bump stocks
He is kind of a revolutionary, I agree. The system is broken. Have a look at America. The richest country of all time and yet so much poverty. Tinkering at the centre won't fix anything.

So you would vote for this man who has praised the socialist dictatorships of Nicaragua, Cuba, Russia and China in turn?

Joe Biden Attacks Bernie Sanders’s Record on Guns
Running Bernie Sanders Against Trump Would Be an Act of Insanity

Sanders might baulk at the phrase "open borders", but his collection of policies - slash defence spending, no Mexican wall, decriminalisation of illegal entry, support for DACA, health care for illegal immigrants - amount to... open borders.

He's an old *smile* commie who never grew up and Trump's publicists will tear him to pieces... after he's torn the Democratic Party to pieces.

The man is an anachronistic kook. Somebody madder than him will shoot him.

You do realise that Trump's businesses have been declared bankrupt 6 times? If that's a sign of a very good businessman, I'd hate to see what you consider a good businessman, or average.
The sign of a good businessman is just that..when you falter but still succeed..he has put his country in a far better place, unlike his predecessor [ & others before him ] who botched everything he / they touched. He cares about America which is far more than our self indulgent week as *smile* politicians care about Australia !!

Are you kidding, that makes him a great businessman. He gets investors to put their money in, not his, racks up debts, and because of the limited liability of incorporated companies, gets to take no responsibility for the commitments he made.

Works a treat.

I'm not convinced Bernie is electable, but not because of his policies. At his age and given he had a heart attack last year you would have concerns. Mind you, the Democrats are having trouble getting their supporters out to vote and Bernie would be reasonable at that. Remember, with around 45% of the electorate voting in most US elections, it's more a case of getting your vote out than convincing people of your policies.

Can't see the parallel with Corbyn to be honest. Corbyn suffered from a few issues: he is somewhat intransigent, has as much charisma as a caravan park, seems not to have changed much since the 1970s etc. Also, Corbyn, like the ALP at our last election, ran an election campaign with way too many messages and no over-riding narrative or theme - both those campaigns were a mash up of policies which just looked like a mess.

If the Dems want to beat Trump they need to be selling a strong and simple message with a strong candidate. They look like doing neither at the moment and I suspect the voter turnout will be middling to low and as of now you wouldn't want to bet against Trump.

Also the Dems should be letting Trump make his own problems, he is erratic and very narcissistic so prone to screw up. That's their best chance looking at it now, but, 9 months to go.

That’s just BS
For the last 3-4 months the only one throwing a tantie was Trump.
He was always going to be cleared by the stacked senate, not sure what the surprise or fuss is about. Victory lap for what exactly?
The thing that annoys me the most is this assumption that just because he is President or even because he may win the next election that somehow everyone has to accept he is a decent president or even a decent human being. He is a narcisist of the highest level who has done untold harm to so many people across the globe.
His latest little gem didn’t even rate a mention in most of the press because we are so used to it, the lifting of the ban on the US military using land mines.
if the people of the US are stupid enough to vote for him then so be it, but that doesn’t make what he does right.
Nope not BS, not even close. I might even stretch the 3 to 4 months out to nearly 4 years, tanties of mass proportion and trump keeps on coming out on top making the thrower look absolutely stupid. Everytime.
Pretty sure i never said it was right. But what i will say is not all that he is doing is wrong.

it was a general statement. This impression that is given by so many on these pages and across the media and social media that because someone wins a general election that anyone who complains about that particular person has somehow a less valid point of view or is throwing a tantie when that view is expressed.
To me the fact that narcissists like Trump win elections is depressing but that doesn’t make them correct.
For months Trump and the republicans threw a tantie about the impeachment because they were scared. Refusing to allow staff at the whitehouse to give evidence are the actions not of people who think they might lose (they were never going to lose) but of those who were scared that maybe the real truth may emerge.
Trump is a very dangerous person who has made a mockery of his office. The fact that he is Teflon Don is nothing more than a reflection of how morally bankrupt politics in the US actually is.

I know what you are saying but the whole world knows that his opposition are a bigger waste of space than him because he has made them look foolish, again and again. Trump is just better at the game than he is getting credit for.

When you say that Trump is better at the game, if you me that he is better at lying then I agree 100% with you. They are all good liars, but Trump is the best I've ever seen, he says one thing one day and another thing the next.

He's part P. T. Barnum. His farewell address should end with "Hope you enjoyed the show!".

Whilst he entered the contest late and it may hurt his bid for the democratic candidacy, I'd like Bloomberg to be in that position personally.

You are mixing up politics with governing. Trump and the people around him are formidable at retail politics and misinformation which is just masking how terrible he is at governing.

Hasn't started a war and hasn't sent the country broke, which were the two main fears voiced when he was elected.

Respectfully have to disagree.

Obama inherited a G W Bush disaster in the Global Financial Crisis.
Unemployment, and the Dow Jones were performing well when Trump got elected. Trump lucked in, and he has got Obama and the democrats to thank for that.
I do give credit to Trump for the wage increases workers have received. Having said that there are less people with health cover, they can’t afford it.
