I wasn’t commenting on whether it was righteous or not only on the inevitability of the result.
Basically anyone with half a brain knows Trump is guilty of what he was charged with but I have always felt it would backfire on the Dems because the result would be inevitable and the turmeric narcissist would end up gloating and look like he won.
So the Dems had a stacked full house n voted for an impeachment that everyone knew was simply gunna crash against the Repubs full house. So the whole event was nothing more than a pathetic sham. Dems deserve to end up looking stupid as they did.

By making sure the witnesses were not heard Trump kept the detail out of the public domain.

DS
Dems called a bunch of witnesses at the initial impeachment hearings, perhaps they should have dragged in a heap more witnesses before they paraded their fancy bit of arse wipe over to the senate. Pointless to then start bleating for the opportunity to appoint more n more witnesses. They were so rabid about finding the Trumpster impeached in their own little kingdom they didn't do the job properly n wound up with *smile* on their fingers.

I think that’s what I said although I guess they wanted to make a point. I know at the time Nancy Pelosi said that there were people in the Democratic Party that were advising her not to do it but in the end she felt she had no choice. Rightly or wrongly that advice was not followed

The Senate refused to hear any witnesses at all. All moot as the Senate was never going to convict, but even so.

I do think the Dems miscalculated on this - impeachment that fails was only going to strengthen Trump with his base. One term presidents are a rarity - they will need something special this year to beat Trump given the economy, and the Dem nomination candidates.

But the Senate already had all the testimony recorded from the witnesses that the Dems had questioned to push their impeachment through the house so they didn't need to rehash whatever those witnesses had testified. Dems then wanted a free hit to bring in a whole new bunch of witnesses that they couldn't be bothered questioning for the impeachment hearing. They rightly got told to *smile* off coz they'd stuffed things up in the first place.

No, this is completely wrong. The House is equivalent to the Grand Jury - they decide if the case should go to trial. If warranted, they present the charges/indictment to the upper house, the Senate. The Senate then conducts the impeachment trial proper. Just like in an actual trial, either side can call new witnesses.

Of course, the Republicans blocked this - the Senate also has the right not to call witnesses. But it's a pretty strange trial where witnesses are never called.

Pointless anger. Same in Australia, same on these pages.
They should just focus on looking after their own house and let those new decisions do the talking.
Trump knows this game and is far superior at it.

Dude, I was just stating how impeachment trials in the US work. I'd say the same if the parties were reversed.

I could see Bloomberg run as a spoiler independent to ruin Bernie's chances, because he'd rather a criminal billionaire in the White House.

Bloomberg is there because he knows Bernie cannot beat Trump. We'll see if the Dems can see this or not over the next few months. Take Bernie to the election in November and they'll lose control of the house of reps IMO giving Trump control of both houses.

Bernie can absolutely beat Trump, as all the polls indicate. Trump is one of the most unpopular presidents since WWII, and Bernie is arguably the most popular politician in the country.

Bloomberg is there to fight for the status quo.

Crazy Bernie would make the election a referendum on socialism. The young and impressionable might fall for it but they will be swamped by the older and wiser. Unless the conservirus coronavirus wipes them out.

We'll see but I see it very differently to you, but you do seem hardcore left which is why you favour Bernie. I don't think he can win, Bloomberg can and he definitely is not the same as Trump regardless what Warren and the other Dem candidates want you to believe.

Why did they call come out and attack him in his 1st debate? Because they are threatened by him, that's why.
