It was so bad that even the commentators were lost for words & raising eyebrows.

Daisy Pearce on Ch7 talked us through a montage of diabolical umpiring decisions at quarter time.

Thats unprecedented as far as I can recall.

I can't see how the 12 point start the umps awarded GWS isnt corruption

I really cant.

im pretty sure GWS were paying about $5 to lead at every change, and a sanctioned 12 point start against a spluttering side will get that done most times.

and 400% interest is pretty hard to find these days.

It's almost enough to tell them to shove it. Seriously you don't fork out $1000s of dollars on membership when you think the deck is stacked.

you could try writing to the AFL,

and stewing on it powerlessly for weeks after you get no reply?

The canned crowd noise at the moment is giving me waking dystopian nightmares,

Mr. Burns Murdoch rubs his hands together, while the umpires do his bidding, to create Wrestlemania-scripted Champions, in front of nobody. pans down to a Steve Hocking, on his knees, wiping his face, grinning submissively with gold teeth

I'm sure i just saw Joe Daniher kick the ball of the ground straight out of bounds. That rule didn't apply this week. Or any other week, just the once when the free was paid against Castagna.

I think it was 10-6 in our favour at HT.

Ended up 16-18 in their favour. But umps don't look at the free kick tally at HT ..

Geelong must be worried now that a free kick has been paid for running too far on a kick in. I counted 17 steps, the Cats never run on short of 20.

Fine display, typical of the season. Players bewildered. Pulled out soft ones. Missed obvious ones. Totally inconsistent. Absolute chook lotto!

Other sides get far more latitude than we do re the stand rule. We get called to play on or pinged for a 50 straight away.

I didn't watch all the game.
But i saw Ross and then Martyn slinged in a tackle both were called play on.
And then Graham calls out to the umpire he moved off the mark and the kokweed called Graham to play on.
Thank *smile* its over

Here we are, at the end of the year, and fans of all clubs (well, except maybe Footscray) are complaining about the umpiring. But what are the facts?

Well, it is certainly clear to me that either every team suddenly turns into a pack of angels who would never ever contemplate transgressing any rule of our great game when they play Richmond, or we are being umpired differently (I will add that I reckon StKilda have some claim to this issue too).

Here's a rundown of the free kicks for and against for all teams for the H&A games in 2021:

That's right, we have the lowest number of frees for and the highest number of frees against. You could argue that frees against is within our control, although I have doubts, but, if that is the case then frees against must be in the control of our opponents - and they magically concede less when they play Richmond.

It is even more stark when you look at the differential for all teams:

Free Kick differential to R23 2021.jpg

Most teams, as you would expect, are close to even on the differential, with only a couple of outliers.

I fail to see what Footscray do which puts them almost 2 free kicks ahead of any other team.

As for Richmond, this really is a bit of a joke. Maybe some of our players give away more frees - but haven't we had players in and out of the team all year? We have a 2.4 free kick differential worse than any other team. Can we seriously say that Richmond are that different to everyone else? That is a stretch.

I'm not saying there is conscious bias, I reckon it is more likely unconscious. But it also reeks of a standard of umpiring which is unacceptable at the highest level of our game.

Good stuff.

So again, even in 2021, we must be either the worst skilled side, the stupidest side the dirtiest side or….is it our game plan? As we know it’s not a bias of any kind by anyone…that’s just being delusional.
