Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

I reckon the field umpires in general have done a fantastic job in the last few weeks. Just letting the play go on and not paying the tiggy touch decisions. Great stuff.

Field umpires have been very good.

Umps have been great. Not hard is it? Just ignore incidental non forceful contact, which they have.

Still getting used to it though. Reflexes twitch in anticipation of a soft free but then its not forthcoming.

Did think Betts was a bit stiff late when he was going to pounce and goal and was manhandled but in the scheme of things if that's the standard and its consistent I'm fine with it.

Agreed. Amazing but welcome turn-around.

When did geischen go on long service leave again?

..and the Giesch is on holidays for 6 weeks at the same time.... COINCIDENCE???

I think the Giesh is on his way out.

Great work by Evans in such a short time. Clubs and supporters feel as if they are being listened to and respected.

There's a form of honesty and accountability slowly being implemented.

Common sense returning. Its more pleasurable watching games now.

My brother had actually stopped going to games because the game wasn't a fair contest anymore and too manufactured for his liking. These changes can get him and other like him back.

Now we just need to teach the players that not every contact is a free or every tie-up tackle is holding the ball or every out of bounds is deliberate

Just on the Geish thing, has everyone noticed that since Geish's 50%, 80% push comments and the other comments "that any block or push (even in the side) has always been a free" that hands in the back and side pushes aren't paid anymore.

Papers stamped IMO and about bleedin' time!!

Yep but that's the beauty of the new (old) interpretations. Players will keep playing the ball and stop staging or complaining.

I was rapt in Jack's game against West Coast because he just kept attacking the ball contest after contest without relying on the ump and that's when he plays his best footy!

I agree on all points Lambchops.
Hopefully a sign of things to come ie the game going back to the people rather than bureaucrats trying (and failing) to justify their jobs.

Credit where its due. The change has been amazing.

Only takes one little man with an ego and a whistle to mess it up but I am enjoying it while it lasts.

Also agree that the standard of umpiring has improved dramatically in recent weeks.

L2R2R, one for you... any chance you're able to provide a list of average free kicks per game earlier in the season compared to recent weeks? I'm tipping its dropped a fair bit.

Unbelievable, now I expect to hear Gieschen say that there hasn't any change in the umpires instructions. ::)

As much as this helps the Tiges, I feel a bit sorry for North this season. Every time I watch them they get robbed by the umps. Gold Coast appear to be getting special treatment as the umps let them get away with a good few tonight. Not sure it would have changed the result though.

Are you high?
North are number one in the comp with free's for by a long way, before this round they had 69 more free kicks than Richmond.
This game they were smashed in every statistic just about....should have lost by a lot more.

No i'm not high. I saw the GCS not get penalised for a number of obvious free kicks tonight, even in this weather. If you didn't see that then you have goggles on. The West Coast farce was a joke also.

I do still remember however how they had a LOT go their way against us last year (the Tuck 'grab out of the ruck' really stands out) so I don't have too much sympathy for them.
