I’m a bit outraged when we win the raw free kick count, don’t give away a 50 and two crucial ARC reviews go our way. Even our normal free kick givers pulled their heads in - nank especially didn’t do one of his literal head scratchers. Got nothing to whinge about except the stand rule and incoming last touch rule.

Daisy Pearce: They should move Membrey behind the ball as it was their most dominant period of play except when they kicked 5 goals in 5 minutes.

Not to mention the Saints failed to kick a goal in that period.

Maybe the Tigers have finally decided to play to the Ump's wishes instead of the usual ill discipline

Maybe the umpires are finally awarding free kicks to Richmond, or maybe the opposition teams have suddenly stopped being angels when they play us.

The average free kicks we give away to the end of round 13 (12 games) was 25 per game. Notwithstanding last night where we only gave away 17 (in a game with very few free kicks, a total of 37 as opposed to an average of 44 per game up to the end of round 13) we have conceded 30, 21 and 17 over the last 3 games, which is an average of 22.3 per game. So a drop of 2.7 frees given away per game.

But the average we have received for the year to the end of Round 13 was 19.83, but in the last 3 games we received 31, 24 and 20 - an average of 25 and an increase of 5.1 frees awarded per game.

A truly astounding turnaround by our opponents, they really need to clean up their acts and return to their angelic ways when playing Richmond.

Note, if the above stats are a bit confusing it is because up to Round 13 includes 2 of the last 3 games, trying to work out the averages before Round 11 and after Round 11 would involve too much time.

So, the biggest impact over the last 3 weeks is the free kicks they have given to Richmond. This is not something we control, it is the opposition who give away free kicks, they no longer play like angels against us for some reason apparently, and the umpire who adjudicate the rules, again something we do not control.

Also interesting to note that over our last 3 games the total number of free kicks granted were 37, 45 and 61. Is this really a reflection of the way the teams played in the different games or are games not adjudicated consistently?

Afl will never own up to it, but a recalibration has had to have occurred. Inexplicable reversal of fortune.

Will have something to do with $. AFL: bugga, we've gone too far with this anti Richmond bias - its affecting the gate and ratings - let's give them the free kicks they deserve for a bit.

Could simple be that our last three games have been against Sydaknee, Pordadalayde n Carlscum.
Syd perennial finalist.
Pord regular finalist desperate to remain in contention.
Bloosers desperate for first finals in years, new coach who was a renowned hard nut competitor.

All three games played a bit more pressured and intense, the Pord game slippery n Bloosers game wet as, so conditions n pressure more finals like and we've had reasonable umpiring results during our previous finals campaigns.

Umpires just practicing their finals mode game plan n letting teams play footy without the insignificant technical over officiating.

Don’t want to channel @The Big Richo too much but balmey made it pretty clear in the bye we made a focus on not giving away 50s and too high frees as we though it cost us multiple games. So it could be us changing and not our conspiracy theory. 1 50m penalty in two games post bye which was Hugo’s brain fade and stupid rule where he didn’t impact play at all running through protected area.

Without looking at the replay I am not sure which one but one of McKay's goals in the last was a direct result of a Carlton player literally running past a statue on the mark ( I think it was Baker or Short) because the umpire was too slow calling play on.
That rule is such garbage, the player on the mark has to be given some opportunity to disrupt someone who chooses to play on.
