They were okay last night. Can’t blame them for it. Missed a couple and there were a few inconsistencies, but we earned most of what we got.

At the local footy today and 15 minutes into the first quarter, I hear the ump say “if you blokes dont stop *smile* sooking , your not going to have a *smile* umpire”:))
Good mate of mine umpires in the VAFA. He says without fail each week he has to call in the captains of each team to tell them get their teams to calm down and play footy and stop whinging like little kids. Usually it works.

Yeah free kick count 11-3 at half time when he had a go at them. Didn’t see the game so can’t comment specifically however I’ve got no doubt he mention throwing as part of his tirade!

Geez, imagine what Mcartney would’ve done by now if he’d have worked at Richmond!

GREATER Western Sydney football boss Jason McCartney is under investigation by the AFL after unleashing a 'tirade' at the umpires at half-time of Friday night's clash against the Western Bulldogs.

Witnesses to the incident have said that McCartney burst into the umpires' rooms at the break to approach them about what he perceived as incorrect decisions for the Giants during the first half of the club's 39-point loss at Manuka Oval.

The 47-year-old is expected to be issued with a 'please explain' from the AFL within the next 24 hours.

The Bulldogs led the free kick count 11-3 at half-time.

Yep. Especially us as we're the spooners every year on this Free kick diff table. 'Please explain' just shows how bureaucratic these a-holes in the league are. What other f*cking reason do they think he has to explain!!!

The please explain should be directed to the umpires.

Good on ya McCartney. Somebody has to bring attention to the horrendous state of umpiring.

AFL media have been muzzled, so change has to be generated from within the clubs.

Worst things is when they do the in depth review of all the umpiring decisions made. They'll be 100% correct decisions. What the *smile* don't do is review all the similar incidents during a game n judge maggots on all the decisions they failed to make.
Doesn't matter what teams are playing, there's three maggots adjudicating games n there's no consistency of decision making or penalising the same infringement in the same manner.
Doesn't matter if one team plays a bit hard n pushes the boundaries of infringement at times, if the infringement is there pay the decision regardless of who the player is. Reckon there'd easily be between 70 to 100 free kicks payed per game if the *smile* maggots actually adjudicated to the rules properly.
But the AFL don't want games over umpired so the maggots pick n choose what infringement they can get away with missing and then suddenly get all precious n controlling n nit pick insignificant technicalities just because it was obviously an infringement.

The other 16 clubs should take it in turns to repeat the action weekly until the message is finally received and a proper consultation can take place and maybe iron out some of the many issues. Removing Steve Hocking would be a good start. His actions are causing issues for players and umpires.

Yep, he also signed off the kit clash in todays game. I'd love 1 or 2 of the players to say they couldn't tell the difference easily. If you have the media (they spoke about on foxtel) and the players commenting on it, then in who's interests is it NOT to use an away kit?

Geezuz. Who can blame him ! Worst officiated league in Australia.

Can go to just about any level below AFL and see a better standard. Country, suburban, TAC. Whatever. All considerably better umpired than the AFL is.

Given he is part of GWS(team afl) can expect the free kick count to turn back in their favour in coming weeks.. Blah!

They were getting slapped in the first half.
Why are the umpires sooo protected?
Ive heard premier league coaches unleash on refs and ive heard basketball coaches smash the umpiring.
But not in the AFL.
So basically they can turn up every week and make the same horrendous mistakes and no-one is allowed to highlight them.
It's *smile*.
If i was loaded i would give Dimma 100k a year to unleash on the fks.

Should never complain about umpires when you’re losing, ever.

I doubt McCartney has ever burst into the umpires‘ room when his team was winning.

This.

Don't want to over-umpire the game means letting frees go which means inconsistency. Simple.

Just pay every free kick you see, that is the f***ing job of the umpire. It is not their job to pick and choose. The sport is now professional, if they pay all free kicks which are there the players will stop offending because it harms their team's prospects. As it stands the players, coaches and clubs all know they can get away with breaking rules and only get pinged some of the time, so they push it as far as they can. Why would Footscray and Collingwood stop throwing when they get pinged maybe 10% of the time? Answer: they wouldn't.

While we're on the topic, how come not paying every free kick means some teams consistently get more free kicks - Footscray, Collingwood - and some teams consistently get less free kicks - GWS and Richmond? How the hell does that work? Really, this happens week after week, year after year? FFS it is completely unacceptable in a professional sport. Do GWS and Richmond really offend more, and get offended against less, than Collingwood and Footscray? Really? I call bulls***.

Good on McCartney, someone has to tell them. I can sort-of understand not having coaches criticise umpires, but how about some respected ex-coaches who aren't constrained by working in the media. In any case, why are the media so bloody timid - they are funding the game, what is the AFL going to do to Fox or 7? They hold the whip hand so they can have a go and tell the AFL where to go.
