The game against St.Kilda I believe highlighted Richmonds lack of defence. With or without Richo I think our forward line looks set for the future with Shultz and Hughes being the main targerts. Our Midfield missing 2 of our best contributers in Cogz and on occasions Newman is still very young and with some of the quality midfielders we have coming through (Foley, Deledio, Polo) I dont believe it is that bad. Our problem lies in the Defence where our only real likley looking prospect down there is Thursfield.

My question is this - Considering we finish 10th this year, what draft picks will we recieve?

Also what Key Position Defenders are there in this draft? - Any that Richmond look likley of obtaining etc? Can someone who maybe knows more in the area of the draft than myself come up with a small list of potential defenders?

If we finish 10th, we get pick 7. Then depending on how many teams get a priority pick (Ess and Carl say), they get a pick at the start of the second round. So we would have pick 7 and 25.

I didnt think the priority system was still active? Am I wrong or is it next year it finishes?

I thought the priority pick only applied if you won less than 4 games 2 years in a row.
From what has been said about this draft any pick inside the top 10 should pick you up an extremely good player.

Ok starting from this year:

a)  4 games or less gives you a priority pick at the completion of round 1.

b)  8 games or less over a 2 year period gets you that priority pick before the first round starts as it used to be.

Isnt the rule actually 16 points or less?
Same thing but really 4 wins could be 18 points if you had a draw.

Thats actually 4.5 wins ;D
Yes it is. But technically the rule is 16 points, because 4.5 wins is still only 4 wins and a draw.

1st Round - Tall KPP Defender. We are looking odds on to get one of the best.
2nd Round - Hard Inside midfielder. A new Maurice Rioli would be nice.
3rd Round - Back to KPP height.
4th Onwards - Best available.
No Round - Ackermanis, Gardiner or any other deadbeat flop or crock.

The new priority pick rule

Part of an article from the official AFL site

- If a club claims 16 points or less after one season, a selection will be awarded before the second round of the NAB AFL Draft. That club will then receive selections No.1, No.17 and No.18, plus the first pick in the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.
