This is something one of our Adelaide supporting, Richmond despising crew at Champion Data dug up to annoy me on a Friday afternoon.

Longest span without being in front on the scoreboard - 2006
Code:
Richmond 430 minutes (Rd 15 – current)
Hawthorn 265 minutes (Rd 16 – current)
Port 247 minutes (Rd 15 – R18)
Carlton 221 minutes (Rds 8 – 10)
We really have to start games a little more positively, don't we? :-\

To me that is not a useless stat.

It is amazing and just shows that when we get behind early it's all over.

Better believe that Brissy have seen that stat and will be toatally focused on coming up out and giving us a tremendous contest in the first 15 minutes.

Not only are our young bodies, giving up but also our young minds.

We are mentally fragile at this stage of the year.

If you look at a lot of our games the score at the ten minute mark of the first quarter tells the story.

fudge, tell your crow pal this fact is indeed useless.

If we had played hawthorn, essendon, carlton, and port adel in the last 4 weeks, and had a full compliment of players to choose from then my guess would be that we would have been in front on scoreboard for 400+ minutes of game time. And remember, all you have to do is kick first score of game before being belted to make your stat defunct. Doesn't say much at all.

MG

It's all pretty lighthearted in the office, but we take what we do very seriously. Of course, he never forgets just who beat them earlier in the year, and if he does, I keep letting him know :hihi

Speakng of stats, here is Richmond's ladder position in various stats so far:

Conversion 16
Disposals Per Goal 14
Disposal 15
Inside50 Per Goal 16
Points 15
Kick 6
H/Ball 15
Mark 4
Contested Mark 9
Clearance 16
Centre Bounce Clearance 13
Tackle Attempt 16
Loose Ball Get 13
Hard Ball 3

Stats dont always tell the whole picture but taking all these stats as one, you would have to say that there is a huge amount of room for improvement. Some notes I would make.

* Kicks far outweigh handballs - this could mean that we are chipping the ball around alot, which is further strengthened by the number of marks we've taken this year, and/or we are not playing a very run-on game.

* Tackling is a disaster. These are 'attempted' tackles and we are last. Indicates not enough pressure is placed on the opposition when they have the ball, and maybe that the skill level at tackling is not up to scratch

* 15th in total disposals yet also last in possessions per goal. This indicates that we just cant kick goals. Same with Inside 50s per goal. Last in convesion of goals, clearly indicated by the missed opportunities this year

* Very down on clearances, especially centre clearances. No stat on ruck contests but obviusly our rucking advantage isnt being taken advantage of.

* Positive is contested marks and hard ball gets. Appears that under pressure there is alot of tenacity at having eyes for the ball, but defensivly if we lose the ball are very week. This can be sometimes indicative of a very young and inexperienced side.

Overall would have to say based on these stats, we have over-performed this year, and I guess winning the 3 closest games weve played this year by 2,3 and 8 points has made the Tigers place on the ladder a little better then maybe we should be. Clearly the last 4 weeks or so has shown where we realistically stand at this point in time.

They mentioned that stat on the telecast tonight. You're spot on Fudge, a good positive start can work wonders. :gotigers

This has been my biggest concern since I can remember.  Call me old fashioned but this vital stat is by far an indication to a team's level of intensity.  Some will say that it just indicates being second to the ball, but the ball by and large is either in possession x2 or in dispute, and with the modern possession game now to the fore, I think tackling ie intensity, has never been more important - and RFC suck at this.  Good tackling creates mental pressure and physical insecurity, but most of all spillages and opportunity.

When we get better at this, we will be a finals side with a real chance.  Until then we may well just become a mid-tier competitive outfit.  On the positive side, I'm sure our coaching staff will remedy this as the glaring anomoly will get attention eventually (squeeky wheel syndrome).

Totally agree Pharace. Pressure on the opposition is everything. It has been proven time and time again (even against good sides), that if you apply plenty of pressure when they have the ball, especially tackling pressure, then they make mistakes as much as anyone else.
