Just read on www.afl.com.au that Arthur Edwards has died.
He played in Footscray's 1954 premiership team and was the father of Allan who played for Richmond in the late 70s (and who is the father of Carlton's Jake).
It got me to thinking ... I used to love watching Allan Edwards as a kid and thought he was a great player, and was wondering why he left. Come on Phantom, you're the expert on that era. He first went to Collingwood but if I remember right it was a few years before the player-pinching war between us and the Pies that broke out in the mid-80s.
