Sad to see that Des Rowe has passed away. A Captain, Coach, Team of the Century member and inaugural Hall of Fame inductee. A great Tiger and one of lifes true gentlemen.

R.I.P. Des. The great Tigerland team in the sky just got that bit better. Thanks for the memories.

Had the great pleasure of seeing Des play. A true Tiger if ever there was one. Sad to hear of his passing!!

Team of the Century member

Contemporary of Roy Wright and one of the least-known players in that team due to the lack of success we had in that era. Des played in a final in his 12th senior game, then served for a further 10 seasons and 163 games without reaching another one.

R.I.P. Des.

I not only saw most of his games but used to drop in to his pub in Swan Street.

He was always happy to have a chat with Tiger barrackers when he wasn't too busy.

Represented Victoria 7 times in interstate games, Victorian captain 1956, All Australian 1956. Richmond coach 1961-63.

He was a true gentleman of football - and there's not many I would say that about.

As well, he had that never-say-die attitude, just wouldn't give up.

Miss your kind at Punt Road, Des! :clap

Such a wonderful man.
Played in the Shadows of Roy Wright, and Max Oppy.

I had the opportunity of interviewing him for the upcoming book the day before he was inducted into his Richmond Hall of Fame (along side his mate Max Oppy).
Just an absolutely kind person who had a great knowledge of wisdom.

Will be sadly missed. Respected by players and media represenatives through his career.

He was the captain when I first started going to matches.

He was one of my heroes together with Roy Wright.

Am I imagining it or did he have a brother in the team called Havel Rowe (spelling?)?

Was speaking to a player who played under Des as a coach - we were going through the photo in today's HSun, and he identified all the players there. The only ones I could pick were Crowey and Paddy Guinane.

Des's nickname was "desert head". The photos of him explain why ;D
