Lenard Cottrell Mitchell, who played 6 games in 1957 for the Richmond Football Club, has died aged 70 years old.
He was born on 29 May 1935, and would have celebrated his 71st birthday at the end of this month.
Recruited from North Ballarat, Len joined Richmond and debuted in the first game of 1957 against Nth Melbourne at Punt Road. Also debuting that day was Bill Clements, Brian Pilcher and Neville Crowe. The Tigers won.
He then played in the next 5 games before finishing his senior career in Round 6 against Footscray. However, in the same season he topped the Reserves Goalkicking with 18 goals from 10 games.
After his career at Richmond, he played or coached at no fewer than 11 clubs in 20 years including Epping, Buninyong, Mirboo North and Katunga.
