Victory is sometimes bitter sweet. Am I alone?

Fair enough. I thought the team full of kids of the last 5 or 6 weeks has played better footy than any Richmond team for 5 years.

Every win makes it harder for us to draft a champion
Can you give me an 100% assurance that Picks in the top 4-5 will be champions?

no . nothing is 100% in life. It is called playing the percentages

Gumbleton Sellar Hansen for example look like being top shelf blue chip key position prospects. A pick outside of the top 5 will just not be good enough to snare them.

Say we finish with pick 8 or 9, who would we have to throw in to get North's pick? Say Tivendale and pick 9 for their pick 3, hypothetically?

this is what I am saying mate.

there is a big big difference between pick 3 and pick 9

and tivers is not gunna bridge the gap, neither will chaffey or *smile*

cogs or newman might, but thats not the path I for 1 want to take!

top 4-5 picks this year are gold.

This is a superdraft people, get with the program

People keep saying that it will be a superdraft but isn't that only obvious after the event?

Don't forget that many said that last years draft was thin but there seems to be a few handy players running around at the moment.

Definately agree with that comment.

Also you have the risk of getting a high draft pick, and the proof that there is no guarantees, is one J. Koschiztke. Obviously talented enough, but ruined by injury.

Run with the pack & you'll get fleas.

If we want to get the best out of anyone place them in an environment that will help foster & encourage the culture you want to perpetuate , ie winning more often than not.

The basis that most draft experts are using to say that this is a 'superdraft' is the comparative performances by a number of this year's draftees against last year's draftees in the carnival and last year's TAC Cup, where a number of players, especially the talls, were better performed than guys like Kennedy and Murphy despite being a year younger and having a year more to develop before they are drafted. FWIW, I've seen three different opinions from people who are generally on the money that if Marc Murphy were in this draft he'd be lucky to go inside the top 10, possibly top 15, and Josh Kennedy, who was picked 4th last year wouldn't get inside the top 20.

These are just others people's opinions of course, but alot of well informed people seem to share the same opinion.

If we're lucky, we could have a repeat of TW's first draft with us. By that I mean TW and GM were obviously aware of the potential of the top 20 players and made sure we were able to get 5 picks in that top 20 (albeit by finishing last under Fraudley and Ottens walking out for more cash).

It will be hard to get the same number of high picks in next years draft unless we trade for them which I'm sure TW and GM are aware and I'm sure they will do everything in their power to make sure we land as many top picks as possible.

it will be very nice to get another 5 picks in the first 20 this year   :spin   but i'd like you to explain to me how it's going to happen.  ???

the only way we will get 5 picks in this years draft is if we trade

deledio
j bowden
richo
newman and coughlan

any takers ?

or we could get two picks in the top 20 by keeping all our players and finishing bottom 4.

I know what i would rather

I agree Blaisee. We will be regretting it if we miss out on one of the top 6 or so in this particular draft. We should still get a very good player even if we do finish around the 8, but to get one of the top 6 or so would help make our list into a super team.

GO TIGES!!!

If you were talking to me, I think I clearly state that it will be very hard to get those kind of picks this year unless we trade for them.

the superdraft was in 2004... deledio, tambling, meyer, pattison & polo... and all 5 are playing this week  8)
Nice one Ian. I can't wait to be looking back in 5 years and rembering these guys in their early stages. Conversely, I can't wait for 5 years time when we are watching them all hitting their straps.

nah, just thinking out loud

we don't have anyone we want to lose - i guess ottens made our decision easy: he walked

Yeah, that's true. It will be interesting to see how we go about gaining a couple of extra decent picks and who we will offload to get them. I can't see another Ottens situation occurring.

we have plenty we can afford to lose pettifer *smile* *smile* gaspar hall rodan chaffey stafford and kellaway wont be losses in the long term. richo pettifer and hall have some trade value as for the rest i just cant see a club wasting draft picks on them because of age or ability. all they are doing to us is keeping a kid out.perhaps we could trade knobel back to the saints for a second rounder.
another option could be browny for a first rounder lets face it since brownys been at the club we have hardly missed him due to injury. hes what now 28. how about schulz and pick to south aust for 1st rounder. the only trouble is no one wanted any of the above players last yr and i dont think to much has changed this yr.
perhaps the best option is to get rid of as many as we can from the list this yr. stafford chaffey tivendale rodan gaspar *smile* moore roach limbach wont effect performances if they were gone and just utilise as many picks as possible. lastly 8 or 9 wins may well enable a team to finish 11th. 8 or 9 wins will be a really good result for this club especiall y if we play 9 or 10 kids every week.imo coll carl melb haw bris have all played more kids than they have needed to to ensure ladder position to get the picks they want .to me this is just being smart its time we got smart.
