4. Nahas, Robin 3
5. Silvester, Jarrod 3 4

Please classify as G or NG (no in-betweens) so we can all bookmark it and look it up at season's end.

My rating is from 1 - 7.
1 - Country league battler
2 - Coburg reserves player
3 - Coburg firsts player
4 - Marginal AFL player
5 - Regularly in the first 22
6 - Core player/ automatic selection
7 - Star of the competition - recognised by peers/AFL with awards.

The first number is my current rating, the second is potential. If the potential rating is blank it means they are there already. ? means I have not seen enough to rate them. Personally if a player does not have the potential to be a 6 or 7, they should not be on the list. If a player is >24 and not a 6 or 7 they should not be on the list either.

maty White and JON both on a 3 ? Can't believe you ranked JON so high. Matty's been a bit hard done by too IMHO

sheesh who would have thought? redford a brightsider. :rofl

on a serious note in fairnes to the old fella hes done a pretty good job in his assesments. the fundamental difference between red and how does one say it oh yeah ferals on this site, he is prepared to give his reasons for his line of thought. imo he bases his opinions on a players strengths and weaknesses. the man who termed the phrase glass half full types hit the nail on the head. ordinary players sometimes can look a million dollars sometimes they look good for a yr or more but invariably they get found out usually because other sides work out what they cant do.

i think where red continually comes from is you can rate a player say 4 thru 7 passable types but rather than look to keeping them in the long term we should be looking to upgrade on them. there are plenty on the list who are potential upgrades. some will prove themselves worthy of keeping. the majority will prove the opposite the real question is how long do you persevere.

its funny plenty put players out there teams out there but few give their reasons why they think a player should be kept or for how long.

finally on angus graham i reckon ive made my thoughts pretty clear reds assessment of 3 is about right atm imo. id have pattison at 3 as well.
when it comes to ruckmen im sorta in the dyer;er camp though, lots of logic there. and yeah iknow it surprises me to.jacks ramblings are enough to drive even a teetotaller to drink.

My little neice is hopless at soccer. Whole family knows it. She even knows it. But do we turn up and support her ? Of course we do. But it doesn't escape the reality that she's not very good at it.

Her name's not Pattison is it?

The reality is we are short on ruck stocks. Out of the more mature players Simmonds is the only one of AFL quality. None of Graham, Cartledge, Pattison are AFL ruck material. So what do we do? Well we've started to address this by recruiting Putt and Vickery and hopefully we will pick up a couple of more in the next 2 years. In the meantime we decide who is the best for a stop-gap measure. The club has decided that Graham being the younger gets the nod over Cartledge. Ironically I think Pattison has been saved from delisting purely for the fact that he's at least had some ruck experience (no matter he is not great at it or suited to it) and is a required backup should Simmonds go down.

Ideally, neither Graham or Pattison would be on our list but realistically we really don't have a choice.

heres my thoughts.

1. Bowden, Joel - been good service to us. can continue to be for another year or 2.
2. Brown, Nathan G.- in the twilight of a good career. should continue to be in best 22 this year, probably next and maybe after that.
3. Collins, Andrew -seems a likely type but would want to start getting a game soon. 50/50
4. Connors, Daniel -shown glimpses, needs to convert that to consistency in the next couple of years. 50/50
5. Cotchin, Trent - will hopefully continue to improve on his good debut season. will make it.
6. Coughlan, Mark - can hopefully regain his pre knee injury form. who knows.
7. Cousins, Ben - hopefully we see something near his best. expect him to be at least good.
8. Deledio, Brett - good player now. expect him to be a star this year or next.
9. Edwards, Shane - shows flashes, but not quite convinced.
10. Foley, Nathan - good player and i expect him to continue to be for the forseeable future
11. Graham, Angus - as likely, or unlikely, as most 21yr old rookie list crash and bash ruckmen to make it. needs a little more time b4 judgement day.
12. Hislop, Tom- havent seen much of him.
13. Hughes, Cleve- needs to start having a consistent influence on games. i have doubts
14. Jackson, Daniel- i reckon he can a carve out a good average career.
15. Johnson, Kane- been a good player. should be his last year. might struggle to play firsts all year.
16. King, Jake - i have worries for jake.
17. McGuane, Luke - can we do better? yes. but if he is our biggest worry we are doing well. will continue to get a game this year, and next.
18. McMahon, Jordan-he will continue to be in our 22 for the next few years, cos he does his job, and that is to get the ball and move it forward fast.
19. Moore, Kelvin- hopefully can continue on from last year. should have a solid career.
20. Morton, Mitch- needs to continue his improvement. should be a regular feature on our forward line for a while.
21. Newman, Chris- will be in our regular back 6 for a few years yet. if only he could compete overhead consistently.
22. Oakley-Nicholls, Jarrad- mmmmm. i hold some small hope that he will start to contribute. in a bit of trouble tho.
23. Pattison, Adam- has battled hard. will continue to get a game until someone overtakes him. will be on our list til a few rucks overtake him.
24. Pettifer, Kayne- had his moments but probably finished.
25. Polak, Graham- it will be a long way back for him. very doubtful.
26. Polo, Dean- i think i like him, but would want to be a getting a regular game this year. i think he'll make it.
27. Post, Jayden- dont know.
28. Putt, Dean- dont know. seemingly good attributes, but a lot of draftees do.
29. Raines, Andrew- dont see him in our best 22, unless he can make the back pocket his. dont think he will.
30. Rance, Alex- seems likely.
31. Richardson, Matthew - probably got another 10years in him.
32. Riewoldt, Jack- i like him. should have a good career as a chf.
33. Schulz, Jay- will continue to frustrate, but will continue to have n ok career as a utility.
34. Simmonds, Troy- our no1 ruckman this year and next year and maybe a year after that. hopefully he can last at least 2 more.
35. Tambling, Richard- should continue his upward graph and become a good afl player.
36. Thomson, Adam- not sure.
37. Thursfield, Will- a good steady kd.
38. Tuck, Shane- will continue to play the ball winning role for a few years yet.
39. Vickery, Tyrone- looks likely.
40. White, Matthew-wont be a star but should continue to improve. if he isnt in our 22 we will have a good team.
Rookie List
1. Browne, Andrew- f knows.
2. Gilligan, Alroy- as above.
3. Gourdis, David- as above.
4. Nahas, Robin- as above.
5. Silvester, Jarrod- would like to see him get a run to see what he's got.

fair assesment brodders but you were a bit generous to mcmahon. any defender who is as unaccountable as he is will eventualy be replaced by someone who is accountable.

up to now his reasonable kicking and speed have kept him in the team but as our younger generation develop if he doesn't lift his game then he will eventualy be replaced.

Thanks again ToO.

It's lovely to hear what is going on at this time of year, even better when it comes from the horse's mouth. I'm getting pretty excited about this season.

;D
