This is the very reason I think Bowden & Johnson need to be retired at the end of the year
I also question our reliance on Richo & NGB, Richo has had a great year this year, but we have developed new scoring avenues and did ok with him out of the side, we always have. No reason Browny can't play on til mid-30s, even the Hawks have Crawford, there's room for a couple of older players.

The fifth wheel ATM is NGB IMO, ZG. More INITIALS. ;D

Simmonds should be replaceable. Even if it's with... I dunno... Everitt for a year. I dunno. One will turn up. Long term it should be with ruck stocks.

Richo is still #1 forward for Richmond. Will be for two years plus IMO. Jack is a star. But will never be a #1 forward in this fan's opinion.

Sugar, since his most recent injury, has been retired to a wing position. One that Edwards or whoever might take on in years to come.

Joel is playing defensive forward. Like it or not. He started the season in that position on Scotland with reasonable results. What we've changed is that Joel is now in charge of spirit. It's a job he did well last game for the first time in eons. And IMO his persecution was in no small way responsible for this improvement. Who will play 90kg small forward?

As I've said to evo, on the forum before, the problem is not replacing Simmo, Joel, Sugar and NGB. We can do that. The problem is replacing their replacements.

That's where youth comes in.

And while we don't address the replacement of the replacements (with class youth) I say - it's a hard rain's gonna fall.

Youth. WTG.

Not good hey?
It was a massive shakeup Ian after a very thorough review much like we are seeing at Tigerland.

You've already mentioned Balme who replaced Davidson, assistant coach Andy Lovell was sacked and replaced by Brent Sanderson.
Other additions were Paul Haines as fitness & conditioning coach & Dean Robinson as rehabilitation & strength coach etc.
Several player(including Kent Kingsley ::)) were sacked.

Those changes may have occurred around the same time but the feedback in the media after the review was that the only change specifically as a result of the review was the addition of Balme and a reduction in Thompson's duties. I remember Billy Brownless on SEN being teased about having this massive review and nothing much coming out of it. So no there is no analogy with the situation of a Board sacking all assistant coaches and dictating how the football department should be run, which is what you compared it to.

Let's see who is appointed in the role - could work out for the best.

But the club should not flirt with its stability. Miller had a valuable role in bringing stability to the club but some huge stuff ups of his cost us dearly on-field. He came across as a bit of a wide boy and a gambler at times, as seen in his recruitment. Not picking Franklin was simply unforgivable (though I am a Tambling fan). Making ludicrous pronouncements such as: a "flag within five years"; vying for a flag in 2007; claiming our first pick in 2005 would land us a star with x-factor, and then taking a huge risk on JON are all huge mistakes, and I imagine ultimately bit him on the bum.
