Wallace's Fifth year of his Contract

This was in response to some smart ass reporter asking about why Richo gets games when he doesn't tackle much. To paraphrase he was basically saying if you want to be 100% offensive, you better be an absolute gun up forward, otherwise its Coburg.

I think he has delivered on this though, because Richo has been the only guy outside this scrutiny (even Brown has picked up his defensive work).

No not Richo, I was referring to TW's comments on Footy Classified when he was commented on his history of poor tackling sides....

Fair enough, T74, but we're way too light and outside.

And one player who has been handled very well by Wallet to date IMO - Brett Deledio - is ready for more demanding defensive roles to round him out and take him up a level.

I'll be interested to see how Terence handles him.

Thrilled to see Lids had 6 tackles on the weekend.
Whilst Gibbs had the better of him in the 2nd half, it's great to see that Lids has worked on this aspect of his game this year.
He was one of our few mids who could walk off the ground with his head up after the game.

This was raised a few weeks earlier (I forget where). As you know, the myth was out there that "if you don't tackle you don't play". One of the radio pre-games raised this (pointing out Richo is still there, so whats going on), and thats when Terry made the point if you are putting all your eggs in the offensive basket, you better be gunning it.

Footy Classified raised the issue again, but in a much fairer way.

I think we should wait and see the end of his contract next year befire making any changes to head coach. I know since we started rebuilding Terry has been doing the right things. The downside is we haven't been winning games. I like Terry and I think he has some good ideas and is brining Richmond forward. I think we may need to make finals next year for him to get an extension on his contract or what the terms are from the board. Terry just needs to turn over some players at the end of the year and see where that takes the club and if there is huge improvement in 09 he will keep his job. We just need to be confident and win games. We have lost so many close games this year that if won supporters wouldn't be talking about new coaches. I just hope this year when Terry wants senior palyers gone to give them a last game to say goodbye and let them retire. I was angry with the way he treated Andrew Kellaway and probably will never forgive Terry for that. But I think Terry is moving in the right direction and playing the kids who are now gaining confidence that they belong in the AFL.

I thought Gibbs had the better game, Oldster. Lids had his lasers off on Saturday. No disgrace. But time to play tight on Chris Judd or Simon Black or whoever so we have more options than Foley when we're in the powdered crap.

Gibbs did very well tagging him out of it and collecting some money along the way but I still reckon Lids played his part for us.
I'd be aiming the guns at Sugar, Tucky & Hyde well before Brett.

gibbs only had 20 disposals but he did kick 3 goals which was very damaging but no way did he tag lids out of it.

lids had 30 disposals,11marks,6 tackles and a goal.
if that`s getting tagged out of it then i hope lids gets tagged out of it every week.

You following me around mopsy? ;)

Lids did of his damage on the stats sheet until half time then Gibbs moved onto him after the break and significantly nullified his impact and well as taking some candy.

When the game was there to be won it was Gibbs doing the damage, not Lids this week.

No, Gibbs was on Deledio right from the start. Go to the first bounce of the first quarter and then track Deledio throughout the quarter.

I'll take your word for it Red as I have only seen it once.
In that case I'd say they probably broke even for the day.

I mentioned to the people I was sitting with that Gibbs had Deledio as the two stood each other on the Northern side wing. Then, as Deledio racked up the possies in the first quarter (about 10 from memory) I was hanging *smile* on Gibbs for not being able to go with him.

....and we died in the arse in the 3rd quarter against Melbourne, the last quarter against Port, and the last quarter again on the weekend.
The thing that sh!ts me is (and I don't know who to blame here) is that we seem to start wasting time and go back into our shells when we are dominating a game.
We did it on the weekend again....think it was the 2nd quarter...we were 3 goals up and playing better and then one of the backline players hold the ball above his head.....o.k...must be close to the end of the quarter so they want to waste the last 30 seconds and go in 3 goals up at half time.
Well, from that point on...there must have been about 5 minutes left on the clock because Carlton got the next couple of goals and it took a Hughes goal near the siren to give us some sort of small buffer.
We did the same against Port...went all defensive FAR too early...we did it against the Bulldogs (which cost us another win).
Why are we trying to waste time and change the way we are playing when we are on top of the opposition?
The time to do that is when the opposition is making inroads into us...not the otherw ay around.
Like I said, I don't know whether Wallace is telling them to do this or if the players are taking it upon themselves to do that, and if that is the case, they should be dropped for not following instructions.

Hate to say it...but I can see Wallace getting another 3 years during next season...you watch... :-[
I posted about this on one of the other threads.
There's a serious problem with the mindset of some of our players. Some don't seem confident enough to take the game on and drive for the win. It seems to be far to easy to try and close up shop, dink the ball around to the short safe option and hope to sneak a win. Even with a reasonable lead, as soon as the opposition ramps up the pressure and challenges we fall over ourselves scurrying for safety.

First half to Lids, second half to Gibbs a fair assessment?

Gibbs flogged Lids in the second quarter.
