I wasn't bagging any on the list. Just trying to make the point that fans seem to want it all with their players. I suppose the aim of a team is to have 22 AA's but that is unlikely. We seem to harp on player's deficencies. I loved Duncan Kellaway, great courage, great mark (especially under pressure) clean hands, good below his knees, great concentration, great tackler, great application to a task, good footy smarts especially defensive positioning, tackiling to pin the arms etc, great versaltility, (run with midfield player/full back/small back/ CHB/ third tall back) fair to good handballer, dodgy kick. Saw him reduce Ricciutto and Buckley amongst many more to mere shells. Saw him compete manfully against Ablett and Lockett and beat Carey! I prefer to appreciate the talents a player has rather than wail about shortcomings.

Pettifer and Gale are/were good AFL footballers.

always thought gale was a good honest player nothing more nothing less.some on here have himin the carey class now thats funny. as for pettifer yes he does some things well. but ive seen people praise him up because hes had 20 possies and kicked 4 goals but they dont see the flip side where usually his good is more than cancelled out by his inadequacies.
well rounded players are all i ask for who work for the team who work hard without the ball and are prepared to cop it for their team mates. pettifer is not a player like this. take 22 like this into games and you will win most of them.

going by the title of this thread it is an insult to classify pettrified a warrior perhaps the thread should have been titled wallaces wooses.

Wallaces Woosies? Now thats a bit nasty old fella.
There may be a few players that go a bit more physical than some but there's not a player that pulls on an AFL club jumper thats a softcock. They may have killed off the kinghit and sniper but with the size and speed of the players nowadays softies wouldn't last a game.

as for pettifer yes he does some things well. but ive seen people praise him up because hes had 20 possies and kicked 4 goals but they dont see the flip side where usually his good is more than cancelled out by his inadequacies.

There is nothing a half forward flanker can do which cancels out 20 disposals and 4 goals. He may not be a brilliant defensive player, but his priority is scoring and setting up goals and he does that very well.

There is nothing a half forward flanker can do which cancels out 20 disposals and 4 goals. He may not be a brilliant defensive player, but his priority is scoring and setting up goals and he does that very well.

if it costs you 4 or 5 going the other way it certainly cancells out. sheesh i woul;d refuse to play with him he wont even lay on a shepherd at times and its cost his teammates pain.

like i have continually said we can do better.we should be looking at replacing glass half full squibs.

kb was a tough little runt especially in his early days. anyone who thinks different just doesnt know. the trouble is most have this perception of a will o the wisp player which he was in the latter yrs. dont worry kb took his fair share of knocks.

the problem with this theory is that if you dont have any guns these players get found out very quickly and the deficiencies soon become liabilities, sydney can afford to have softies like davis because the other 20 players make up for it, same as geelong with johnson etc but we dont have that luxury

like claw said pettifer will look good in the stats book with his goal tally but it wont show how he let his opponent get a free run to the wing which sets up 3-4 goals going the other way over the course of a game

we are last in tackles and 1%ers almost every year which is unacceptable, how does it change? i think the answers are pretty clear

damn right the answers are clear but it is only going to get worse. you can add mcmahon and morton to the soft you know what brigade. theres only one defensively poor player i would tolerate on our entire list thats nathan brown.

I didn't see any of your posts in the thread relating to the the captaincy and leaders.
Didn't have a cark-it attack or choke on your willie weeties when you read of his promotion did you?

i dont hold much store in captains. on a footy field you mostly lead by example. sheesh if we follow kanes example we will be playing netball before you can blink. hang on we play like netballers now. we are following kanes example already.
