Don't let it get to you too much :P

Most of it is opinion, yours against mine, you see we are predicting what we think will happen in the future, there is not alot of fact to it. I say 6 or 7 players who have represented the backbone of Essendon will be gone soon, you say they will be adequately covered by the mid-tier age brigade, who many in my opinion have not performed to expectations, and the youngsters who have played a handful of games between them and cannot yet be adequately judged.

I definitely think Essendon have recruited reasonably poorly. Sheedy has had a tendency to give up draft picks for ready-made players, a tactic that has caused the Tigers grief over the years. This year Essendon has won 7 of their 10 games by 2 goals or less. Their position this year is flattering and they are struggling big time with a much older list than the Tigers. The Tigers definitely have a better list going forward than Essendon in my view.

Don't let a couple of wins fool you. We are still a million miles away. Worst skill level in the land.

I'd argue the skill level bit. I think our skill level has improved immensely and have seen some very poor opposition clubs too in terms of skill.

Simple exercise, who playing on Saturday is to old to still be playing in 2011? The answer is not many players

B: Kelvin Moore, Will Thursfield, Luke McGuane
HB: Chris Newman, Andrew Raines, Joel Bowden
C: Daniel Jackson, Nathan Foley, Richard Tambling
HF: Kayne Pettifer, Matthew Richardson, Shane Edwards
F: Nathan Brown, Brett Deledio, Jack Riewoldt
FOLL: Adam Pattison, Shane Tuck, Kane Johnson
I/C: Chris Hyde, Graham Polak, Greg Tivendale, Jake King
EMG:Jay Schulz, Patrick Bowden, Cam Howat

And all those players will probably be with us in 09. Now do that for the other Melbourne clubs. We’re looking okay, but we need one of JoN or Myer to come on and to have another draft year in 07 like 06.

of course its opinion and thats why its good stuff

those essendon senior players will not be replaced quickly but i still dont think they are as bad off as popular opinion seems to think, look at a kid like dempsey who has hardly played but will be a player once he gets luck with injury very similar to a casserly situation

they are too cashed up to be down the bottom for a long period of time, i predict a bit of mediocrity to come for the bombers but it depends on how well the 06 draft crop develop in time

thats why im so keen on getting the priority pick this weekend, here we have a chance to get a head start on some of the best crop from the 07 draft and people want to throw it away

without doubt structurally we have the worst list in the comp talent wise probably in the bottom 4.

collingwood. without going overboard collingwood have 10 on their list i would not hesitate to get rid of. they also have older players who will retire this yr or the next or be delisted.they are buckley clement burns wakelin and licuria. thats 15 they need to turn over.
their greatest weakness is a lack of pace in general but they do have skilled pacey youngsters waiting in the wings.and a dominating ruckman.they also need talls especially with retirements and delistings. imo their tall stocks are better than ours.if mick puts the broom thru them and the older players do go i expect them to go backwards next yr.

carlton. again without taking a chainsaw to their list they have 10 they need to delist trade. plus retire lappin and kouta. carltons weakneses are again the lack of a quality ruckman they have 4 on their list (one of which is shaun hampson) who in time might turn out okay they will definately delist 2 maybe 3 other ruckmen they are ackland cloke and mclaren. they have an abundance of talls in their system all up 23. so along with the 3 ruckmen kpps who might get the chop are. saddington kouta retired. whitnall and fev may be offered up as trade though i doubt it.

imo carlton have more pieces of the puzzle assembled than us with picks 1 and 3 they will get the ruckman they need and a quality well rounded onballer. to go with gibbs murphy stevens grigg russell and walker. imo i think they will finish somewhere about 7 thru 12 if their youngsters can take another step up.

essendon. again they have about 10 ththat need to go. to exasperate this they have a heap in their twilight who are retiring or only 2 or 3yrs away at most.. they are hird camporeale fletcher j johnson m johnson m lloyd lucas michael. thats 18 who ever takes over will need to put a broom thru a fair few over the next 2 yrs.
their real problem is the fact that one of their strengths their spine is old and blokes they have invested heavily in have not filled the void.bolton should have ben delisted yrs ago and bradley must be a huge disappointment johns is to slow and only a shadow of the player he was prior to his hip.they really only bhave ryder and gumbleton coming thru as kpp. they have just 2 ruckmen on their list hille and laycock plus a rookie.
they have some talented young mids coming thru but like us in the main their players have poor skills. imo who ever gets the job has a lot of pruning to do. imo 2008 16th. especially if michael and fletcher go.

of course its not going to happen quickly because the kids need to play some games first, sheedy went for finals and had a fairly expereinced side out on the park earlier in the year, with the new coach coming in these young guys will get their chances

for every lucas and lloyd their is a brown and richo, both sides are in similar positions thats why i have a hard time with threads like this and think their should be a bit more fact rather than saying what you hope may happen

pies fans were upset with last years draft because they didnt get pace into the midfield, little did they know they just about got their kp stocks looked after for the next decade

yo Quinhon, note the beautiful use of paragraphs in this wonderfully constructed post by IrockZ :hihi

Agree with lack of pace.Apart from Thomas no other can run through the lines.Thomas and Pendlbury make up a very good midfield however depth is the problem.Disagree,s with their ruck.Fraser isnt a Ruckman.Good around the ground but for a former #1 pick he hasnt taken the comp by the throat.KP hmmmm up fwd i agree Cloke and Reid up back not so sure.

Carlton,Geez they would want to improve with 3 #1,s on their list along with the likes of Fisher,Waite etc. However you can never be sure.

To be honest whoever gets this Gig better be prepared for some hurt bigtime. In fact Sheedy has left this list in a terrible state. In 2yrs time sheedy will be looked upon fondly by bummer supporters as what Spud means to us.
They have only ONE kid that looks like making his mark in the comp and thats Patrick Ryder.Their midfield is in worse shape than ours.Their defence even moreso while their Fwd line is no better than ours[future wise].Mark Thompson would be insane to leave Geelong.Essendon are kidding themselves!

Agree 100%

Where the bloody hell is our spine. Take Richo out in 2 years and who is going to fill that void. Cleve Hughes perhaps but he hasn't sparkled at AFL level yet with limited opportunities and Reiwoldt hasn't convinced me yet. Schulz has disappointed me, I believe he either wants out or he lacks confidence when playing in the forward line with Richo. He can do it when Richo is not there but cannot play well with him.

Sadly these ba...... have stitched us up in the draft this year when clearly we have been the worst team and they have tanked despite what Vladimir Demetriou might say.
