We cannot win on Monday!

Matthew "Simon Overland" Nicholls is umpiring. He fair dinkum murders us. Justin Schmidt and "Razor" Ray Chamberlain are the other umpires. I feel sick in the stomach knowing this..................

I thought I must have accidently logged into the Collingwood fan site...sheesh. ::)

The blokes in red, yellow, white or whatever they wear aren't the reason we don't win games....it is the guys in the black jumpers with the yellow sash.

Umpires simply expect us to stuff up and punish us accordingly.

The umpires arent undiciplined. THe umps dont lay sloppy tackles. THe umps dont kick it over richos head so 3 blokes can swamp him and then "we" cry foul. Yes the umps make dubious decisions, but the umps dont kick 21 + goals. Hell, they dont even give 21 free kicks in front of goal.

We need to win the ball and kick it long, carry it through the guts and remember its football, not handball and be accountable. Be hard, in an under and grind out a win. The umps cant stop tenacity.

The thing that annoys me about AFL umpires is that they dont realise how big a penalty a 50m penalty is and they jsut gie them out willy nilly without being 00% sure what has happened and often for frivolous things. I know one of the umpires personally and he is a good bloke so I ahve nothing against them as blokes however this is the thing that nanos me the most. They give decisions without being 00% sure. Shouldnt hapen, should never guess a decision.

How many goals will Nicholls "gift" the Bullies after last week's embarrassment? The Cats managed 4 goals, 2 behinds from 50m penalties but not sure how many Tucky's mate was involved in ...

After last week's "mistakes" with the new tackle rule and admission of error by the Giesch, I would hope it is payback time this week and this is maybe why we have been given Nicholls again?

Interesting spin there Hungry. Perhaps sub-consiously we could benefit (though it could also go the other way), but as an umpire/referee for a couple of different sports, that doesn;t even enter in your conciousness. Most games are so fast (especially AFL) that most calls are instinctive from what you have learned. If you learned it well, your instinctive calls are good, if you haven't learned it well, these are the call you are going to mess up.

Which is why I can understand the umpires complaining about the new rules not even being announced until the week prior to the season. Sure they ran them in the NAB Cup. But there were problems - and they needed plenty of time to go over and over the calls made so they are truly learned.

The game is at crossroads with rules - they either become applied in the right spirit, or because they simply occured irrespective of the spirit of the game. Watching Brisbane v West Coast caused me to cringe a number of times. That is why I think a better balance is needed between "no name and nor shame" and "constructive criticism". These guys are paid big bucks now - make them more accountable!

The biggest problems with the Maggots are the way they are instructed to interpret the rules and umpire the game by H.O.
Everyone gets told one set of rules before the season starts and then H.O. starts manipulating and reinterpreting the way the rules are umpired without notifying the teams.
The bloody microphones. Give the umpies flouro coloured uniforms and a michrophone and they've gone from roadies doing the background technical setup stuff to onstage in ya face gangsta rappers.
Then Geisch and the AFL H.O. fort up around them like private bodyguards to protect them from the screaming ravaging hordes of groupies err fans.

Summed it up quite nicely Maso. ;D
