We Just Can't Win

I think this new crop of kids will make the change. From what I've seen of them, they are hard at it and not scared to go in for the hard ball. Raines, Polo, Howat, Foley, Lids, White, King all have that never say die instinct in them. Give them a few more years to harden their bodies and I think the old feared Tiger Tough metal will be back and respected by opponents.

Unfortunately most of our mid 20s players don't have that grit, bar Tuck and Newman. That's why we have no respect. Let these kids go out and earn it themselves, because they will.

lI couldnt agree more with the opening post in this thread. My view is that there is only one thing left to break out of this malaise....like the Dogs in '97...... We need to become an angry club. Angry at the loss of respect, angry at the lack of respect, angry at others perceptions of us, angry at the cycle of failure, angry at the lack of sucess, angry at our own lack of expectations, angry that we are expected to be patient, angry that other clubs seem to rebuild time and again while we languish, angry at unfair draws, angry at the world. Anger is not always a healthy way to live... but, sometimes, if we dont get angry we cannot break the shackles and cannot force ourselves to change. Its time for the club to have a major convulsion, a tope to bottom dummy-spit - but not at itself, no no no,...united in our anger AT THE WORLD.
Thats excactly what i was trying to say ;) Would it hurt if we became bullies? Just look at the Melbourne game last year. Not one of our players wanted to get the ball. That is the type of impact i want our players to achieve out on the field. We need to start playing games on our terms. If we lose by 100+ points that, so be it, but i think every richmond supporter craves that maximum effort week in week out.

But how was our pre season so shocking? Yes, we lost a few games, but who gives a rats ass.

Our worst game all pre-season was on the TV against the Cats and that's the only look that 90% of the football world have seen of us this year.

Add that to last seasons four floggings and few wins against the genuine contenders and it's not hard to see why we are copping it.

Only one way to earn respect and that is too beat the teams we should AND be competitive against the top sides.

Well put Oldie sage observation :)

The RFC has done nothing of note to warrant respect in the past 2 decades so why are all and sundry screaming out for it.

The tigers will be respected when they are desrving of it through sustained competitiveness and on field deeds nothing more nothing less its simple.

The best performance of the pre season for mine, when looking at the big picture was not beating Collingwood but the game put in by the kids in Canberra i assure you all.
