We lack a key defender or more Wallace spin?

IMO we should be shopping for experienced players at season's end. Correction, we should be shopping now.
And we must target midfielders as we should have done each season.

Trade selection #8 down for #13 to get a loose man in defence? Madness. We needed midfielders then as we do now and have done for years. We should have trade selection #8 up to get one. Not down.

Remember at trade time we were advertising that we had too many inside midfielders and we needed to punt one? Just out of interest can anybody name a team with too many inside midfielders. Sydney, WCE, Geelong, Adelaide? They've got a lot.

This year- midfielders and lots of them. Inside midfielders.

I thought Miller said we had too many inside mid.

Apparently trading down picks doesn't matter - it is all luck anyway.

Target experience players, thats what got us into this mess.

It's certainly all luck drafting if you have recruiters as crap as what we have. There's posters on here who know more about players than the RFC recruiters.

What did they see in Adam Pattison's kicking? What did they see in Oakley-Nicholls? Why did they draft Tambling when we should have gone for a tall in 2004?

Targeting bad ones got us into this mess. I can see that there's luck involved in drafting 17yos but experienced players you shouldn't put a foot wrong.

1) They saw shifter's report that his kicking was inconsistent, but thought he ran a 15beep at the draft camp so he'd be hunky dory.
2) They saw a guy who mowed his mum's lawns at 8am Sunday morning, and had a sub 3 min 20metre spring, and finished 1st or 2nd in the agility test in some really slippery shoes. Damn, if it weren't for the shoes, he'd have got top spot in both 20m and agility test!
3) Cause Terry wanted a run and carry, linking through the midfield, 16 goal a game side. Terry neglected to think who'd be on the end of the midfield kicks inside 50 after Richo retired....

Clubs rarely give up good ones. I agree with Bill, targetting players from other clubs is a no win - especially for the last placed team.

Another game where Gaspar would have been handy,Wallace's decision to send Gaspar packing has been a costly one.Whilst we need to look to the future we still need to win some games.

Mate, ya can't blame Terry. It was just unlcuky that Gas loved Richmond so much that he couldnt play for Coburg. Gas bled for the club and to be told he was dropped shattered him. We were just unlucky.

wallace is as much to blame for the state of the list as miller. at the end of 2004 he bought talls to the club in graham knobel limbach mcguane pattison and simmonds while delisting retiring marsh weller and ottens. when the dust settled or big man stocks had swelled from 11 talls. almost to a man duds. to 14 mostly ageing. with a fair sprinkling of duds and highly speculative kids. the talls on the list were.
Archibald never played a game.
Gaspar the game had gone past him every man and his dog knew this. a liability whose time was up.
Hall has never been up to it.
Andrew Kellaway just didnt have the skills.
Trent Knobel injury prone one dimensional ruckman was drafted with staffords retirement imminent.
Limbach never played a game.
Mcguane early 3rd round pick kicking skills once again leave a lot to be desired.
Mark Graham laughable short term fix. whats the point indrafting someone for 1 yr shortsighted understates it.
Morrison dud.
Pattison i wont bag the kid.
Richardson personally would have traded him.
Schulz have always said he has to many deficiencies.
Simmonds an example of how we should go about recruiting.
Stafford should have retired

it was patently obvious that 9 or 10 of the above were not going to be around for long. also the obvious lack of early picks in this area was a concern. schulz and pattison were the only 2 early picks we had used in this area since ottens in 97. and imo we stuffed both up. any way more later.
